Catholic Action Group (C.A.G) Issues UK Voter's Guide for Catholics Thursday 14 April 2005 PDF Print The C.A.G today issued its Voter's Guide for Catholics in the run up to the forthcoming UK General Election. The guide is non-partisan, but is unequivocally pro-life. It warns Catholics that they may incur "Eternal Hell Fire" if they deliberately vote against Church teaching on the five non-negotiables and remain unrepentant. It will be made available to the UK's five million Catholics via a national advertising campaign, mailshots, e-mails, hand outs and free download via its website at www.catholic-action.com. Robert Williams, the group's Secretary remarked: "We have just lost a Pope who lived a pro-life message and died with dignity despite his suffering. We are imploring Catholics to use their vote as a weapon for the dignity of life and as a mark of respect for the late John Paul II - the Great." The material in the guide is mainly based on a similar version issued in the United States, which was read by over 15 million of its citizens in the run up to the recent Presidential election, where the pro-life Catholic vote made an impact in the deciding state of Ohio. C.A.G's pro-life spokesperson, Chris Walsh (Ex Chairman of SPUC) stated: "Our guide lays down clearly, the non-negotiables that any serious Catholic cannot ever morally support i.e. Abortion, Euthanasia, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Human Cloning and Same-Sex Unions. Catholics need to be made more aware of how serious a sin it is to vote for moral evils so clearly opposed to the Church's teachings. This guide assists them with regard to MP candidate selection in a clear way. From experience, MP's words on pro-life issues are meaningless, it is how they actually vote that really matters." C.A.G's National Coordinator, John Gunn commented: "Catholic voters need to be made much more aware of the consequences of their voting actions. For instance, to knowingly elect pro-abortionists, with a given alternative, is a crime against humanity. To open a fair abortion debate, we have publicly requested that the BBC host such a debate. Its horrors need to be known by all. Being pro-abortion is an easy position to take when you are not the one being killed. Over the next 5 years of parliament, another 900,000 pre-born potential UK citizens may be legally murdered in the womb if this horror is not stopped now. Voting for pro-abortion candidates can leave these victim's blood directly on your hands."
