Envirox™ Fuel Borne Catalyst cuts diesel consumption in fleets by up to 10%

The current fuel crisis has focussed many companies on ways to reduce their high fuel bills. Oxonica, a leading European nanotechnology company, spun-out of the University of Oxford, has developed Envirox™ Fuel Borne Catalyst, a commercially available product for the automotive industry and in particular heavy duty vehicles.

Envirox™ reduces fuel consumption in diesel engines, offering savings of 5-10% depending on the application and also reduces harmful particulate emissions by up to 15%.

Kevin Matthews, Oxonica CEO said:
“Converting to using Envirox™ is a very easy process. Our current focus is on depot-based fleet customers to whom we can also provide dosing equipment and help with installation.”

Stagecoach in the UK and in New Zealand are already enjoying the benefits of Envirox™ across their entire fleet. The bus company started using the additive in its vehicles in December 2004 following a successful 12 month commercial evaluation.

Brian Souter, Stagecoach Group Chief Executive said:
“Fuel is one of the biggest costs in the transport industry and the savings this product is able to deliver will help us continue to provide value-for-money bus services that attract people to public transport. It will also help improve the environmental impact of our operations and the quality of life in our towns and cities.”

The dose level of Envirox™ is very low because of its high activity; the catalyst concentration in diesel fuel is only 5 parts per million.

If all HGV fleet operators in the UK were to convert to using Envirox™ in their engines, Oxonica estimates a reduction in diesel consumption in excess of 2.6 million barrels per annum. This equates to savings of in excess of 1 million tonnes per annum of carbon dioxide equivalent*.

Oxonica is also in discussion with major oil companies and international fleet operators.

At a time of increasing fuel prices and environmental concern, Envirox™ provides a compelling combination of fuel economy and emissions benefits.

*based on 2002 data from UK Government report: ‘Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Transport’, assumes 5% fuel saving from Envirox™.
