Consultancy addresses need for practical innovation at Future Technologies Conference

11 April 2007, London: Alpheus, the leading mobile telecoms consultancy, today announced that it will be speaking at the prestigious ForumOxford: Future Technologies Conference on 13 April 2007. The event, being hosted by the University of Oxford, brings together leading members of the mobile telecoms ecosystem to explore emerging technologies, particularly how Web 2.0 can be applied to the mobile market.

Nick Sex of Alpheus, along with Scott Beaumont of RefreshMobile will talk about the practical considerations behind making innovative, mobile applications happen. They will address questions such as: What are the non-technology enablers for emerging technologies in the mobile space? With an emphasis on Mobile / Web 2.0 innovation, what are the key qualities of people, finance and expertise that actually make it happen? Using Alpheus and Refresh mobile as a 'double header', they will address these questions from both sides, the investor and the entrepreneur.

RefreshMobile’s Mobizines product pushes mobile provisioned content from major magazines to users’ mobile devices. Alpheus was an early stage investor in Refresh and has provided consultancy services in the development of its technology platform.

ForumOxford was established in 2006 as a web-discussion forum to unite the best thinkers in the telecoms industry to enable sharing of ideas across the sector. Part of the University of Oxford’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Centre, it has grown to more than 1,200 members from 72 countries. The Future Technologies Conference aims to capitalise on this success through a face-to-face event. Other organisations speaking include Google, Vodafone, 3, Ofcom, Symbian and Admob, as well as noted specialist consultants and authors Ajit Jaokar and Tomi Ahonen.

“With the gradual maturing of certain mobile technologies and the move to Web 2.0, the mobile industry has the opportunity to create new, innovative applications that appeal to consumers and have the potential to dramatically increase revenues,” said Nick Sex, CEO, Alpheus Solutions Ltd. “However technology alone isn’t enough – key to successful mobile innovation are practical considerations of investment, management skills and real-world people that must be addressed. By sharing our experience with Refresh we’ll show conference delegates how original applications can be brought to market through a combination of smart investment and sound business skills.”

“The rapid growth of ForumOxford demonstrates the high level of interest and activity in mobile applications,” commented Ajit Jaokar, chairperson and moderator of ForumOxford. “Alpheus’s combination of experience, expertise and investment track record makes it a perfect speaker to drive discussion in what is needed to ensure Web 2.0 projects deliver.”

The conference will be held on 13 April 2007 at Rewley House, Department for Continuing Education, Oxford, OX1 2JA. For more information on the event and ForumOxford visit
