BeCrypt announces the first totally secure Mobile Working Environment – Trusted Client Thursday 12 April 2007 PDF Print Press Release 12 April 2007 A new, unique way of working from BeCrypt InfoSec, Grand Hall, Olympia, 24-26 April Stand number: E194 BeCrypt, a leading supplier of data protection and encryption products will be launching a safe, configurable operating system that fits on a USB memory stick, for use in un-managed environments, at InfoSec. The system, known as Trusted Client, allows a trusted environment on an untrusted host and can be used for thin-client applications, web or email access or for stand-alone applications. All information including the operating system on the USB stick is encrypted and protected with boot time authentication to ensure confidentiality and integrity of data. Trusted Client provides increased flexibility for workers as they can work securely from any computer in any location. It reduces costs by removing the need for laptops, providing remote access to systems, removing the need for two computing systems where users work at different levels of classification. The bootable operating system, held on the USB stick, is customised to contain applications and security functionality. The strength of the solution comes from the encryption of the media on which the operating system is stored, and in order to boot the operating system into its preconfigured environment the user must be authenticated. Combined with a VPN and endpoint security checks Trusted Client can be assured with a high level of trust. Additionally Trusted Client can be configured for specific business needs. David Holman, CEO of BeCrypt commented, “BeCrypt has recognised the need for an inexpensive, mobile environment which has the flexibility to suit all mobile users, while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of the environment through authentication.” Mr Holman continued, “Trusted Client has already been piloted at a major UK Government site, and we are very excited about its potential to revolutionise the way that security is provided to mobile workers.” Applications for Trusted Client As Trusted Client is highly configurable its applications are many. Some ways that Trusted Client could be used include: Employees that occasionally work from home – rather than supply an expensive laptop, Trusted Client provides the same security and more, at a fraction of the cost. Employees that work from client sites – give presentations at client sites without any effect on the host computer. Support business continuity – in emergencies such as failed public transport, ensure that key employees can gain secure access to the corporate network, even from an untrusted machine, like a home PC. Secure repository – a safe mechanism for storing, transporting and working on sensitive data without the need for installing software for encrypting and decrypting or copying to an untrusted environment. First responders – access for first responders such as police officers or government officials that need to respond to an event as quickly as possible and need access to online sensitive information resources. For a white paper on Secure Mobile Working that discusses the issues for and against and explains how Trusted Client can meet many different requirements is available.
