LONDON/ PRAGUE – 17 April 2007

CSA Czech Airlines is introducing air-ground datalink communications on their growing fleet of new Airbus aircraft after signing a contract for SITA’s AIRCOM Datalink services. SITA is also deploying three new VHF ground stations in the Czech Republic.

The CSA decision continues the trend for Central and Eastern European airlines to adopt this technology including other recent recruits, Malev and WizzAir. Long-standing SITA AIRCOM users in the region, Lufthansa and Austrian use SITA datalink services to support flight and ground operations, maintenance, and flight-following and ATC messages. Aircraft equipped with satellite systems also use the air-ground voice service.

The number of European airlines using SITA AIRCOM air-ground data link communications services in Central and Eastern Europe now stands at 24. Other SITA customers include SR Technics and the air navigation service providers, DFS and Skyguide.

Recognising the growing demand for datalink services in this region, as airlines update their fleets, SITA is deploying three new AIRCOM ground stations in the Czech Republic. These will expand coverage in the region, bringing the total number of VHF ground stations east of Germany and Austria to 40, allowing other airlines to gain benefits from expanded coverage in Central and Eastern Europe.

Jirí Devát, CSA Vice-President for Information Technology said, "After careful evaluation we selected SITA to be our air-ground communications provider based upon their experience and coverage in our region of operations. We look forward to using the technology on our new fleet. We will use datalink to increasingly integrate our aircraft with our flight support systems in order to improve operations efficiency, aircraft maintenance management and to be able to provide enhanced information to our crews.”

Ilya Gutlin, SITA Regional Vice President Central & Eastern Europe said, “SITA’s success in promoting AIRCOM services to airlines such as CSA as they acquire new aircraft with data link systems, demonstrates they are convinced that using AIRCOM is justified by a reduction in flight operations costs. We look forward to convincing other airlines in the region to make the change from voice radio to AIRCOM.”

More than 8,000 commercial aircraft operated by over 100 airlines, use the SITA AIRCOM service, far more airlines than use any other digital communications service. These aircraft all use the VHF AIRCOM data link service and 2,000 of them also use the Satellite AIRCOM voice and data service.

AIRCOM Server is the leading processing solution for ACARS messages in airline operations centers, with 31 customers. Most of Air Traffic Service providers with data link application systems have selected AIRCOM Server to provide access to aircraft.
