BIBBY DISTRIBUTION TAKE MANAGED OUTSOURCED ROUTE TO HOSTED SAM COMPLIANCE Wednesday 18 April 2007 PDF Print - UK’s leading independent logistics company outsources SAM compliance to Liken’s managed and hosted service. The UK’s leading independent logistics company Bibby Distribution has decided to take a managed route to meet its SAM (Software Asset Management) compliance goals in accordance with ISO 19770-1. The service is supplied by SAM “software as a managed service” experts Liken Group (www.liken.com) Headquartered in Liverpool, Bibby Distribution, is the UK’s leading family owned warehousing and contract distribution operator, employing circa 2,500 people at more than 70 locations in the UK and with over 750 vehicles and several million square feet of warehouse space. The Company provides a full range of logistics services operating dedicated and shared use solutions, freight forwarding and other added value services for national and multi-national customers. Bibby Distribution, part of the Bibby Line Group has an enviable reputation for forging excellent customer relationships and places a significant emphasis on meeting the highest compliance standards across all areas of its IT and commercial operations. Following an extensive review of SAM business processes, Bibby Distribution decided that the fully managed and hosted route, offered by Liken would provide the most effective way of meeting ISO 19770-1 and the company’s other software asset management goals. Initially, Liken used a discovery tool already purchased by Bibby Distribution for internal SAM use. It is planned that this will be replaced with Liken’s own free “e-link” discovery tool. Within the service provided, data is gathered, at regular intervals from across Bibby Distribution’s network, in accordance with predefined parameters. The data is then sent via secure FTP to Liken’s servers to ensure that all executable files are accurately reconciled in accordance with Liken’s stringent service level guarantees. A hosted repository for all license documentation is also incorporated allowing Liken’s team to provide a constant independent review of Bibby’s license position. At the same time a complete in-depth risk assessment is delivered identifying file-sharing software, outdated versions and any other installed software that impacts the security of the network. According to Robert Lee, CIO of Bibby Distribution, “Maintaining the highest standards of compliance is an essential element of our IT strategy. Whilst one can do this internally, the constant churn of new versions coupled with the wide array of executables that naturally appear on any network over time, mean that it is a huge task to stay ahead of the game. Liken have undisputed expertise in this field and the managed, hosted route means that a great deal of the pain is negated, allowing us to concentrate our resources on other aspects of high quality IT service delivery internally.” Hugh Skingley, CEO of Liken welcomed Lee’s comments adding, “We were impressed by the high standards of compliance that Bibby maintain. By delivering a hosted managed service for them we can alleviate many of the internal resource demands they have faced and deliver benefit in terms of cost savings and risk mitigation as well as compliance. We have enjoyed working with them and look forward to our ongoing relationship.” www.liken.co.uk For Further Information, Please Contact: James Rowlands Liken Group Tel: 07771 515732 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or Leigh Richards The RIGHT Image Tel: 0870 850 7631 Email: email@example.com About Liken As an independent group, Liken provide impartial and effective advice and reports covering a range of essential areas - risk reporting, license optimisation, software usage and entitlement that allow their clients to make the right management decisions rather than being managed by the limitations of their SAM toolset. Liken delivers effective software asset management itself - not just a set of tools or a few days consultancy. The service they provide overcomes all the stumbling blocks and pressure points usually encountered by businesses implementing a software asset management program including: -File reconciliation: Liken guarantee to reconcile at least 95% of all executable files on client’s networks and tell them exactly which applications are fully or partially installed, and… - License reconciliation: Liken establishes exactly what their clients are entitled to, based upon what supporting documentation is available - all on a fixed cost basis.
