Advertising.com launches WonderWomen network to mentor female staff Wednesday 2 May 2007 PDF Print Ad network develops support scheme for growing numbers of women working in online sector Advertising.com, the largest, most experienced online advertising network, today launches its WonderWomen mentoring scheme for European female employees. The scheme will combine traditional business learning with lifestyle education to build overall confidence in both work and private lives. Work-related modules include negotiation and presentation skills as well as profile raising exercises. The lifestyle training will focus on themes including personal finance, nutrition and coping with stress. Nearly half (42 per cent) of female staff polled stated career progression is more significant to them than a work-life balance, which was only highlighted by 13 per cent of those polled. Pay is also key for female staff with one third of respondents (29%) stating money was an important goal at work. In terms of the training women desire, negotiation and profile raising skills both scored highly, with over 79 per cent of the 71 women polled rating these as important. 62 per cent of Advertising.com’s female staff also felt training in managing expectations and coaching would be helpful. “The huge boom in online has seen an increase in women entering a sector that, in its infancy, was more male-dominated. The calibre of women in our industry today is that we expect them to reach the top, but we want to ensure that we provide the support and training they need to get there. In setting up a mentoring network, staff can meet and learn from each other as well as share experiences with younger women in the business,” said Carla Cotterell, Strategic Sales Director at Advertising.com. 41 per cent of Advertising.com’s staff across Europe is female, and nearly half (44 per cent) of UK employees are women. The company’s executive management team also has several female members in Europe and the US. These figures are in line with rising numbers of female employees across the digital industry, a figure set to rise as spending online is predicted to balloon to more than $16bn over the next five years.
