The fifth leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) in Brighton came to a conclusion in the small hours of Monday morning with Dave Smith walking away with just over 100,000 pounds and a seat in the Grand Poker Final later this year.

After four days of intense action the final poker table was a mixture of experienced pros, Blue Square poker online qualifiers and some previous final tablists. To get to the final table these nine players battled through a tough field of ove three hundred players. Amongst those competing for the title were WPT and EPT winner Roland de Wolfe, EPT winner Victoria Coren, , Praz Bansi (Leg One winner), Jerome Bradpiece (Leg Two winner).Michael Greco (Leg Three Winner) and Dave Colclough (Leg Four Winner).

3rd Place Rajesh Modha - 33,600

Although David Colclough went very deep in the poker tournament it was International Chess Master Neil Carr and Ladbrokes poker million winner Rajesh Modha who battled it out with eventual winner David Smith . After several hours it was Smith who scooped the cash, a Tutima watch and a seat in the Grand Final (worth three thousand pounds). In the final hand Dave called Neil’s all-in reraise on a 5-4-T all diamond flop. Neil, holding 6-2 of diamonds had already made his flush, but Dave’s 9 of diamonds, Ten of hearts holding improved when the Ace of diamonds fell on the turn.

The poker event, which is being shown on Channel Four later in the year, is the pinnacle of Smith's poker career. Although he is a regular and popular figure on the UK poker circuit this was his first win in a major event.

Jonathan Raab Tour Manager commented:

“Dave Smith is a worthy GUKPT winner. He has come close before in previous events and played solidly throughout the tournament. He was one of the early chip leaders and stayed near the top of the leader board for most of the event. I look forward to seeing him at our next poker event in Newcastle.”
