What’s it all about? Thursday 14 June 2007 PDF Print With the weather already hotting up this summer, it’s a worrying fact that many teenagers are neglecting to use adequate sun protection – and without realising the potential damage they may be doing to their skin. A recent survey has shown that 1 in 3 teenagers don’t realise that regular and prolonged sun exposure can cause skin cancer. And even more worryingly, almost 80 percent admit to not using sun creams at all. Professor Tim Eden of The Teenage Cancer Trust says “Melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers and what many youngsters don’t realise is it’s the damage done to the skin in early years that can lead to skin cancer in later life.” SolarSafe Sun Protection and The Teenage Cancer Trust have teamed up to help raise youngster’s awareness of skin cancer and the importance of using sun protection. Look out for them at festivals, concerts and beaches near you this summer...we’ll be in touch with exact locations soon.
