A new online resource has been launched that will give young people the opportunity to learn more about the music industry and discover how to break into it.

Created by The Music Directory, the fortnightly E-zine provides music fans with all the information, support and skills they need to build a successful career. The online newsletter features music news, audition information, entry-level industry jobs, artist development guidance, industry contacts, demo critiques, interviews, features and more.

Presented in a user-friendly way, The Music Directory E-zine aims to be a starting point for anybody wishing to learn more about how to get a foot on the music ladder - whether that's performing, producing, song-writing or any other related role.

The E-zine offers a unique insight into this diverse industry, with much of the material being written by those with experience in the music field. Registration is free and subscribers to the service receive the newsletter straight into their email inbox.

Sam Borrett, director of The Music Directory, describes why this initiative is important for aspiring musicians: "I felt there was clearly a need for this type of resource for young people, as there isn't much out there at present that offers the services we provide. The success of YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and other similar websites clearly shows that young people are increasingly living their lives online."

The Music Directory is an online music resource that supports bands, artists and musicians across the UK. Completely free to register, subscribers can list their act, upload demos and photos and promote their music. The site also features a fully searchable music business directory, demo competitions, audition information, music news, a user forum and gig guides.

About The Music Directory

• The Music Directory is a non-profit organisation. It was launched in February 2006, with the E-zine launched in February 2007. More than 2,000 registered users, music businesses and bands use the website.

• The MD’s ethos is based on the belief that despite the numbers of people using sites such as MySpace, there are not enough strong links into the industry available through this type of web business.

• The MD’s focus is on promoting opportunities to break into the industry as a performer, or ‘behind the scenes’, while providing a platform for bands and artists to promote themselves as well.
