Technotime integrates XJTAG boundary scan into novel PCB test solution Wednesday 27 June 2007 PDF Print - Technotime’s new ‘XJTAG Inside’ system provides In-Circuit and JTAG Functional testing from a single and modular test fixture (ICT pluggable version works with leading ICT systems) - Technotime solution can provide near 100% test coverage quickly and extremely cost-effectively - With ‘XJTAG Inside’, Technotime can test JTAG-enabled boards with BGA devices and non-JTAG PCBs by using the XJIO expansion board - Agreement with Technotime provides XJTAG with sales channel into broader PCB test market CAMBRIDGE, England and MOSBACH, Germany, June 27, 2007 - XJTAG (www.xjtag.com), a leading supplier of IEEE Std. 1149.1 compliant boundary scan tools, has signed a technology agreement with German printed circuit board (PCB) test specialist Technotime Electronic (www.technotime.eu), which has resulted in the XJTAG Professional development system being integrated with Technotime’s novel two-step test fixture solution. With ‘XJTAG Inside’, the Technotime system now provides In-Circuit and JTAG Functional testing all from one single, modular test fixture. By combining this capability, engineers have a solution that is quick and easy to set up (1-2 days as opposed to 4-6 weeks for some test fixtures) and can provide near 100% test coverage much more competitively than other similar products. The Technotime system works with all leading In-Circuit Test (ICT) systems. In addition, having XJTAG built-in provides Technotime’s customers with the capability to test both JTAG-enabled boards those containing one or more ball grid array (BGA) or field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, as well as non-JTAG enabled PCBs by using XJTAG’s XJIO expansion board. Besides its 208 digital I/Os, the XJIO board features 16 JTAG controllable analogue I/Os (8 x ADCs and 8 x DACs) which allow power rail verification and analogue inputs to be stimulated. Commenting on the announcement, Simon Payne, XJTAG’s CEO, said: “We are delighted that Technotime has selected XJTAG as its boundary scan partner. The combination of our powerful product with Technotime’s innovative two-step offering creates a compelling solution for companies looking for a cost-effective solution to production line testing. Also, the agreement provides XJTAG with sales potential and exposure in the much larger mainstream PCB test market.” Technotime’s new and powerful modular test solution combines several different elements to create an all-in-one In-Circuit and JTAG Functional test system suitable for OEMs, original design manufacturers (ODMs) and contract manufacturers. The vacuum driven Universal Contact Module ((UCM) test fixture has a unique two-height test probe feature which enables simple switching between In-Circuit and JTAG Functional test modes which is necessary to avoid interference. To overcome testing devices with no board testpoint and achieve high test coverage, the system also includes Technotime’s DCR (Direct Contact Route) Ultra Fine Pitch technology, which allows direct contact (from the top and bottom of the PCB) with very low raster (0.127 pitch) devices. The Technotime solution also features the full capability of the XJTAG Professional boundary scan development system which enables engineers to test a high proportion of the circuit (both JTAG and cluster devices) including BGA and chip scale packages, such as SDRAMs, Ethernet controllers, video interfaces, Flash memories, FPGAs and microprocessors. XJTAG also enables In-System Programming of FPGAs, complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs) and Flash memories. “The XJTAG system complements our solution perfectly as it is simple to use and enables the rapid development of functional tests which, once written, can be reused throughout the product lifecycle,” said Bruno Ratzky, business manager, Technotime Electronic. “We believe that our new competitively-priced ‘XJTAG Inside’ multi application fixture meets the test needs of today’s PCB assemblers as it provides high test coverage, fast fixture set up, yield improvement and significantly reduced test costs.” Pricing for Technotime’s TT-JTAG208 Functiontestsystem (standalone and ICT pluggable versions) starts from around EUR 29,000. Its TT-JTAG Functiontestsystem provides customers - OEMs, original design manufacturers (ODMs) and contract manufacturers - with In-Circuit and JTAG Functional testing all from one single, modular test fixture. The company is headquartered at Mosbach, near Heidelberg, Germany. About XJTAG (www.xjtag.com) XJTAG is a leading supplier of IEEE Std. 1149.1 compliant boundary scan development tools. Its JTAG (Joint Test Action Group) development system offers a highly competitive solution for designers and developers of electronic printed circuit boards and systems. Utilising XJTAG allows the circuit development and prototyping process to be shortened significantly by facilitating early test development, early design validation, fast development of functional tests and test re-use across circuits that use the same devices. XJTAG is based in Cambridge, UK, and is part of the Cambridge Technology Group. What is JTAG? Advances in silicon design, such as increasing device density and, more recently, ball grid array (BGA) and chip scale packaging, have made traditional electronic circuit testing methods hard to use. In order to overcome these problems and others; some of the world’s leading silicon manufacturers combined to form the Joint Test Action Group (JTAG). The findings of this group were used as the basis for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standard 1149.1: Standard Test Access Port and Boundary Scan Architecture.
