SmartLine’s DeviceLock software now controls Windows mobile to PC-device communications

SmartLine Inc., a worldwide leader in endpoint device control security, can enable corporate customers to protect sensitive data and ensure it isn’t leaked through employee PDAs and smartphones running Microsoft ActiveSync®. New features in DeviceLock are mitigating the threat of these devices, which often have large memory capacity, and can pose significant security risks.

With the new ActiveSync control, DeviceLock enables corporate security administrators to define which types of data end users are allowed to exchange or synchronise between corporate PCs and their Windows Mobile personal devices. This central, highly-granular control extends to files, pictures, calendars, emails, tasks, notes, and other ActiveSync protocol objects, as well as devices connected through any local ports and connection interfaces including USB, COM, IrDA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. In addition, the administrators can perform auditing and shadowing of files and other data copied from the PCs to mobile devices.

“There is strong demand from our customers to put mobile device use under the strict control of corporate security administrators. Integrating ActiveSync Control into DeviceLock is our response,” said Ashot Oganesyan, SmartLine Founder and CTO.

All ActiveSync control configuration tasks and procedures can be performed conveniently from one of three central management console options: DeviceLock Management Console, which is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in; DeviceLock Enterprise Manager, a standalone management server; or DeviceLock Group Policy Manager, an MMC extension snap-in for Group Policy Object Editor.

Featuring a comprehensive central management platform that is fully integrated with Microsoft Active Directory, DeviceLock enables security administrators precisely to control, monitor online, shadow-copy, log, and analyse end-user access to all types of devices and local ports on their personal computers, as well as automatically block operations of any hardware keyloggers. DeviceLock proactively protects against data leakage and corporate network infiltration by malware via the local ports of distributed computers, thus significantly reducing business risks resulting from insider malicious actions, errors or negligence.

“ActiveSync control extends DeviceLock capabilities beyond pure device control functionality and signifies the first step in the implementation of SmartLine’s new product strategy,” said Oganesyan. “Our product roadmap calls for building DeviceLock into a comprehensive endpoint security platform with much higher effectiveness and security performance built on intelligent data filtering capabilities. In future DeviceLock versions, we will rapidly expand the breadth of mobile personal devices under DeviceLock control by implementing filtering of synchronisation protocols used by other leading mobile operating systems.”

The new DeviceLock function is now available for public beta testing at with official release in DeviceLock version 6.2.
