Porter Foods (www.porter-foods.co.uk) has some excellent news for everyone who is trying to keep fit; a product that helps your body to continue to get the benefits of your workout long after it has finished. Unlike the many sports bars and drinks available, Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil is 100% natural, easy to add into a healthy balanced diet, and has a deliciously successful track record of more than 100 years.

Porter Foods will officially launch the Gea oil range to the UK market at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair (stand 28, September 2-4 2007).

Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil, which is also available in an organic variant, is nature's workout and detox assistant. The delicious oil contains citruline to prevent muscle fatigue, vitamins A and E to strengthen muscles, phosphorous for energy boosts, omegas 3 and 6 to enhance muscle growth and metabolic rate, calcium to maintain weight loss, and potassium to eliminate toxins from the body.

Grown in the Slovenian regions of Styria and Prekmurje, the pumpkin seeds produce a versatile oil that is perfect as a salad dressing and flavour enhancer for vegetable, fish and meat dishes. It contains the highest amount of vitamin A of all edible oils and has been traditionally used as a nutritional medicine in the region for years.

More recent medical research has identified a link between pumpkin seed oil consumption and the treatment and even prevention of some conditions such as prostate diseases, bladder and urinary tract infections, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis and cholesterol levels.

Kate Arnold, a qualified British nutritionist said: "Whereas many oils we use are only rich in omegas 3 or 6, pumpkin seed oil is rich in omegas 3, 6 and 9, and most importantly are a high source of zinc, which so many of us are lacking. I would recommend it as another way of incorporating these essential fats, vitamins and minerals into the diet".

Michael Patton, chairman of Porter Foods, which is the sole distributor of Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil in the UK, said: Unlike the pumpkin flesh, which is around for such a short time, Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil can be stored for up to 12 months. As chefs worldwide are discovering, it is incredibly versatile, with its pleasant nutty flavour and intriguing red to green colour change (red in the bottle, green on your plate). It will be a hugely popular addition to our gourmet and fine food range, as it can easily be used as a substitute for oils in most recipes.

So before you reach for your sports bar or drink, reach for some Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil instead and give your workout and your whole body a boost!

Recipes:

Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil can be used in place of a variety of oils including olive oil, flax oil, and walnut oil. It is ideal for use in marinades, sauces and dips.

For a simple way to enjoy Gea Pumpkin Seed Oil, just pour a little into a dish and serve as a dip with fresh baked bread and some delicious Vincotto or Balsamic vinegar. Or drizzle some over roast potatoes just before serving to add a nutty flavour.

Traditional Slovenian Salad Dressing

60 ml vinegar (cider, white wine or malt) 30 ml pumpkin seed oil
1 clove garlic (crushed)
salt and black pepper to taste

Pour the oil into a bowl, add the vinegar and then mix in the other ingredients. Leave to settle at room temperature. This dressing works especially well with a Slovenian-style salad of chicory leaves, lettuce, finely chopped cucumber, tomato, red onion, and red and green peppers.
