BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH FEATURE IDEAS FROM THE GENESIS APPEAL Monday 6 August 2007 PDF Print With October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month fast approaching, The Genesis Appeal - the UK’s only charity entirely dedicated to preventing breast cancer – would like to offer some possible feature angles to tackle the subject of breast cancer prevention: • As well as access to several different case studies for interview, we can also put you in contact with a number of world-leading professors, directly involved with The Genesis Appeal, and The Genesis Prevention Centre. The Centre – Europe’s first ever, purpose built breast cancer prevention centre – was opened this July. The £14 million, state-of-the-art centre is based at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, bringing together internationally recognised medical experts and houses pioneering work into diagnosis, education and research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. • The Genesis Appeal is also involved with the research of Dr Michelle Harvie. The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Diet by Dr Harvie draws on evidence from Genesis’ researchers and from other specialists in nutrition, cancer prevention and genetics, to explain how women can take control of their lives and limit their risk of developing this disease. In fact, only 5% of breast cancer is directly linked to inherited faults in our genes, with the majority of cases linked to lifestyle choices and diet. We are able to offer case studies and interviews with the author of the diet book, Dr Harvie. • We’re proud to announce that supermodel, Jerry Hall is now lending her support to the Genesis Appeal, and is directly involved in the Appeal’s “Paint it Pink” campaign. She says: “I’m 100% behind the work of Genesis, the groundbreaking and inspiring breast cancer prevention charity, and its Pink Nail campaign for October 2007. "My family has firsthand experience of this dreadful disease as my twin sister Terry was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 1998 and I am proud to put my name to a campaign that aims to make 1 in 10, none in 10.” We have several beautiful images of Jerry Hall, displaying her support for Genesis. If you have any other enquiries, or would like to arrange interviews or get hold of an image, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
