Avanquest Software, a leading developer and global publisher of best-selling personal and professional software, has announced the release of DiskCopy and Clean™, the perfect solution for upgrading to a new hard disk and safely erasing the old one.

As home and business computing becomes more data intensive with higher resolution digital images and larger file sizes, upgrading the hard disk in a desktop PC may become necessary, especially in older computers. However, this does mean that the old hard disk may contain sensitive information, such as credit card details or passwords, which if not securely erased could be used by identity thieves or fraudsters. DiskCopy and Clean™ will enable a simple transfer to a new hard disk and will securely delete data on the old one if necessary.

DiskCopy and Clean™ is extremely easy to use, with no installation required as it runs directly from the CD. The Copy Wizard™ allows users to transfer everything including programs, preferences and even settings, from one hard disk to another in a single click without the need for reinstallation of applications. Simply install the new hard disk in the desktop PC and copy the data across in one simple operation.

Furthermore, sensitive data is often left on old hard disks due to the common misconception that deleting files, folders or even partitions means that data is completely erased. Just because they are not visible does not mean they cannot be recovered. DiskCopy and Clean™ repeatedly overwrites the hard disk so there is no chance of recovery; the user even gets a certificate of erasure to prove it.

“With a massive increase in the quality and quantity of file sizes being saved, including digital images and movie files, many people will be thinking about upgrading the hard disk in their desktop to keep up with the demand for greater capacity. DiskCopy and Clean™ can make this a simpler and safer process as it will also securely delete the data on the old hard disk if necessary,” says Simon Reynolds, Commercial Manager of Avanquest Software.

DiskCopy and Clean™ supports all existing partitions, automatically copying them and giving the user the option to have them proportionally expanded to fit the new disk. The user can choose to copy everything or selected partitions; while unwanted partitions can be erased. DiskCopy and Clean™ works with all USB drives and PC operating systems.

Users considering an upgrade to their desktop PC should back up all data before starting. Additionally, it is often considered wise to have the operating system and programme files saved in one partition or hard disk; all other personal and business folders should be saved on a separate partition or hard disk.
