In the week when Paddington Bear sold out to Marmite leaving Marmalade producers nationwide practising their ‘hard stares’, Antony Worrall Thompson has launched a healthier option for yeast extract lovers in the UK.

Antony Worrall Thompson’s TOASTMATE is a reduced salt spread which contains 75% of the salt content found in other similar spreads. In addition, it tops the chart on sodium levels per 100g of yeast extract containing only 3.1g as opposed to Vegemite (3.4g) and Marmite (4.3g). TOASTMATE also contains beneficial vitamins such as niacin, thiamin, folic acid and vitamin B12. (See notes to editors for nutrient health benefits)

Why reduce salt?

There is evidence that links a high salt intake to high blood pressure which is the main cause of strokes and a major cause of heart attacks in the U.K. A diet high in salt has other adverse effects such as increasing the risk of osteoporosis and asthma and has been linked to cancer of the stomach. The current government guidelines suggest that adults should eat a maximum of 6g of salt per day. Children should also watch salt intake which may predispose them to developing high blood pressure in later life.1

Whether young or old, small changes in diet can have a big impact on health when maintained as part of a healthy lifestyle. So, if you ‘Love it’ why not try a little of what you enjoy with Antony Worrall Thompson’s TOASTMATE for a reduced salt savoury treat that won’t compromise on taste.

Antony says: “I think we all recognise the value of reducing salt in our diets but it is not always easy to simply replace favourite foods with something that is similar with great taste. Little ones will love my spread on fingers of toast with a lick of unsalted butter, whilst adults can enjoy a more sophisticated breakfast version using toasted bagels topped with cream cheese and TOASTMATE for a savoury treat”

Where to buy: Tesco priced £1.97 for a 240g jar. To find out more about Antony’s range of food, kitchen and lifestyle products click onto: www.awtonline.co.uk

Notes to editors:

Also contained in TOASTMATE:

Thiamin (vitamin B1): essential for converting the carbohydrates in foods into energy. It also plays a role in promoting healthy nerves and may be useful in treating certain types of heart disease.

Niacin (vitamin B3): As with Thiamin, Niacin Is needed to release energy from carbohydrates but it is also involved in controlling blood sugar, keeping skin healthy and maintaining the proper functioning of the nervous and digestive systems

Folic Acid: Utilised thousands of times a day to make blood cells, heal wounds, build muscle and any other function that requires cell division. Folic acid is critical to DNA and RNA formation and assures that cells duplicate normally. It is especially important in foetal development and helps produce key chemicals for the brain and nervous system.

Vitamin B12: essential for cell replication and is particularly important for red blood cell production. It maintains the protective sheath around the nerves (myelin), assists in converting food to energy and plays a critical role in the production of DNA and RNA, the genetic material in cells.
