London, 19 September 2007 – SmartLine Inc has stepped ahead of the competition with the launch of DeviceLock 6.2, the latest version of its endpoint security solution. DeviceLock 6.2 integrates with encryption tools from best-of-breed providers, including PGP and Lexar, giving IT managers an extra layer of security to their device access control policies. In addition, DeviceLock 6.2 is the first device control software that manages which types of data can be synchronised between a host and Windows Mobile device through Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol.

DeviceLock 6.2 enables organisations to integrate software and hardware-based encryption solutions like PGP® Desktop® Whole Disk Encryption or Lexar® SAFE PSD S1100 USB drive with its device control function. It applies ‘Crypto Intelligence’ to device control by detecting whether data being transferred to mobile storage devices, such as USB sticks, external hard drives or even MP3 players, is encrypted or not, and activating access control policies accordingly. For example, certain employees or groups can be permitted to write data to and read it from USB flash drives only if it has been encrypted with the selected software. Other users may be allowed to read only from removable storage devices, but not write to them, even when encryption has been applied.

The latest release therefore ensures that data being uploaded to external or removable devices that are connected to the computer through its local ports is encrypted to the highest possible levels. The encryption is guaranteed to be certified, and users do not have to spend extra on cryptographic tools that are embedded in device control products and which may not be of sufficiently high quality.

Ashot Oganesyan, SmartLine founder and CTO said: “The DeviceLock 6.2 release is another solid demonstration of SmartLine’s ability to respond to customer demands in the most efficient way. Instead of rushing to the market with another ‘me-too’ encryption tool, we chose the route of integrating with industry-leading cryptographic products, and – as a result – delivered to our customers a fundamentally more effective, crypto-intelligent device control solution. Our solution protects our customers’ investment in enterprise-class encryption platforms, while preserving the quality and reliability of cryptographic data protection provided by third-party brands.”

“The DeviceLock 6.2 release, with its Crypto Intelligence approach, signifies a landmark development in SmartLine’s product strategy. We now give the highest priority to the functional integration of DeviceLock with adjacent endpoint security products and components from partner vendors, with the aim of providing our customers with a converged endpoint security solution.”

Also available in DeviceLock 6.2 is granular access control of how Windows Mobile® devices communicate with PCs using the Microsoft ActiveSync® protocol, through any local ports and connection interfaces including USB, COM, IrDA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. This enables corporate security administrators to define and monitor what types of data users can exchange or synchronise between corporate PCs and mobile devices, such as files, pictures, calendars, emails, tasks, notes, and other ActiveSync protocol objects. It gives them highly granular control of exchanges between users’ mobile devices and their PCs,

Key features of Device Lock version 6.2:
• PS/2 keylogger prevention. DeviceLock confuses input from PS/2 keyboards, forcing keyloggers to record a huge amount of useless noise data and hiding real key strokes.
• Flexibility for white listed USB devices. Access control rules on both interface (port) and type levels can be allowed to bypass control on the type level to avoid potential policy conflicts for white listed devices and simplify access control definitions.
• Unified GUI look and feel in all DeviceLock management console options including DeviceLock Group Policy Manager, DeviceLock Enterprise Manager and DeviceLock Management Console
• Stream compression for audit logs and shadow data sent from Device Lock protected computers to DeviceLock Enterprise Server, which decreases the size of data transfers and reduces network load.

DeviceLock 6.2 retains the comprehensive central management platform that is fully integrated with Microsoft Active Directory®. It enables security administrators to shadow-copy, log, analyse, monitor online and thus precisely control end-user access to all types of devices and local ports on their personal computers, as well as automatically block operations of any hardware keyloggers. DeviceLock proactively protects against data leakage and corporate network infiltration by malware via the local ports of distributed computers, significantly reducing business risks resulting from insider malicious actions, errors or negligence.

DeviceLock 6.2 is available through SmartLine’s distribution channels worldwide. All DeviceLock users with valid maintenance period can upgrade to DeviceLock version 6.2 free of charge. For more information, current or prospective customers should contact SmartLine UK on 0800 047 0969.
