LONDON, 21 September 2007: Threat Expert Limited today launched a major update to the website for its automated malware threat detection and analysis system, Threat Expert, at the Virus Bulletin 2007 Conference in Vienna, Austria. Threat Expert has been developed by the same team of experts who created PC Tools’ flagship product, Spyware Doctor. The website features detailed malware encyclopedia with information on thousands of threats, a world threat atlas and current advice relating to the geographic distribution of threats.

Along with the launch of the new research website, Threat Expert will be represented at the VB 2007 Conference by two of its chief security researchers, Kurt Baumgartner and Sergei Shevchenko, who will be presenting on the challenges and solutions to dealing with next generation malware, termed “Malware 2.0”.

Threat Expert is designed to provide rapid, detailed descriptions and analysis of the behavioral effects and changes that a threat makes to a computer upon infection. This includes all types of malware; viruses, worms, Trojans, adware and other security related risks.

“Threat Expert marks a new era in malware detection technology as it produces reports with the level of technical detail that exceeds anti-virus industry standards. Threat Expert can analyze and then generate up to 1000 highly detailed threat descriptions per server, per day. This provides for virtually unlimited scalability to handle hundreds of thousands of threats a day.” said Simon Clausen, Chief Executive Officer.

The latest trends reported by the Threat Expert and PC Tools team are DoS type malware attacks; micro-malware and zero-minute exploits (click here to read more).

“Combating malware is no longer about populating databases with new signatures it’s about dealing with the constant influx of new threats. Automated threat analysis, Threat Expert, is the key to handling next generate threats - Malware 2.0” said Clausen.

Threat Expert works via its ability to deceive a threat to communicate across a simulated network while a threat’s behavior is recorded in detail, in only a few minutes.

System Administrators, industry experts and the media can use Threat Expert to quickly identify new threats and minimize the impact of infection on a computer or network.

“The information that Threat Expert provides is invaluable for people who work in the computer and IT security industry, they can use the reports to rapidly deploy strategies to detect and suppress new infections more efficiently than other security vendors can respond with updated database definitions to remove the threats” said Clausen.

Suspected threats can be submitted to Threat Expert via a web submission form at A detailed report will then be sent to a nominated email address within minutes.
Other website features include regularly updated detailed report browsers, current threat listings, online file and side effect scanners.
