London: Applied Learning, a leading training company in global financial markets, has announced today that for the first time it is opening its courses to institutional clients and (individual) financial professionals. Applied Learning has launched the “Open Course” Programme and the first course, “Hedge Funds Demystified”, will be run in London on December 4th.
Applied Learning offers an exceptional level of tuition, with tutors of outstanding calibre and experience. Previously the company limited its courses to institutions; the new Open Course programme is the first time that Applied Learning has offered its training courses to individual finance professionals.
The current market could be described as ‘rocky’ and with uncertainty and widespread misunderstanding of the role and activities of hedge funds the course is particularly well timed. The one-day course will allow delegates to get an insider’s insight into how hedge funds really work, in particular:
- The different investment strategies and techniques hedge funds employ
- Who invests in hedge funds, and why
- Understanding the different fund investment styles
- Regulation and risk management of the hedge fund sector.

Says Gerald Ashley, director at Applied Learning: “ While we do not expect Northern Rock style queues, we are seeing a lot of interest in training in understanding risk and behavioural finance. The current market turmoil is an ideal backdrop for launching this course. Investment professionals need facts, not half- baked opinions and vague rumours about how hedge funds really operate. This course is the right topic, with the right content, with the very best trainer and critically, available at the right time.”

This will be the first time that a wider audience will be able to attend Applied Learning training courses. The training company has established a solid reputation as a high quality provider of professional level training for the world’s major banks and trading institutions. Now it brings innovative and specialised training, which in the past was available only in-house, to financial markets professionals. It is unique in being able to offer courses of such depth and detail, which are usually only available on a bespoke basis to banks and financial institutions.

Future topics in the Programme will include specialist training on credit derivatives, behavioural finance and commodity investment. The Open Courses will be initially available in London with plans to roll out to other financial centres in 2008.
