Another stellar year for UK technology at the fifth annual CNET Networks UK awards

www.cnetnetworks.co.uk/awards
CNET Networks UK, the UK’s largest online-only publisher, today announced the winners of the fifth annual UK Business Technology Awards. The finalists of the sixteen categories were honoured last night at a networking dinner, held in London's famous Park Lane Hilton.

The awards recognise innovation, application and excellence in technology and business. Winners were selected from the many entries received by the Awards Judging Council comprising senior practitioners and experts from the technology industry and media.

Winning a CNET Networks UK award has become one of the most sought-after accolades for those involved in business and technology in the UK and this year’s ceremony, hosted by BBC World Affairs Editor, John Simpson, was no different. Key industry players and a host of businesses involved in the IT industry looked on at the showcase of UK talent on display, with categories ranging from the Enterprise Hardware Product of the Year to CIO of the Year.

New to the awards in 2007 was the Green IT initiative of the Year, sponsored by Computer Aid, which was included to reflect the increasing environmental concerns within the industry and the positive role IT can play in protecting the environment. This award was won by IBM for work they have done with Project Big Green.

Another notable award of the evening went to Peter Cochrane, who received the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the UK Technology Industry’ award for his work with BT and his contribution to the field of international communications.

In congratulating the winners, Jill Orr, Managing Director of CNET Networks UK, said: "The competition for this year’s awards has been fierce, confirming that 2007 has been another fantastic year for the UK technology industry. The standard and quality of the entries this year was outstanding and this is reflected by the high calibre of innovation coming from the industry's many talented people. I would like to congratulate all the awards winners on their successes and hope the year ahead is equally impressive."

The 2008 CNET Networks UK Business Technology Awards will open in March 2008. Companies interested in nominating their products or projects can find out more at www.cnetnetworks.co.uk/awards or contact awards@cnet.com.
