Mediasurface, Europe’s leading content management solution provider, announced today that London Borough of Tower Hamlets has chosen its Immediacy CMS to meet the content management and accessibility requirements of 6,000 employees

4th October 2007 - Immediacy, part of the Mediasurface group, today announced that the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has selected Mediasurface’s Immediacy Content Management System (CMS) as a key component in the delivery of its new intranet. Immediacy CMS has enabled the Council to cleanse and update material and improve quality of new content published on the intranet, a key source of information for its employees.

The new intranet has been successfully rolled out to the Council's 6,000-strong workforce. The site has been completely re-structured so that content is better geared to how staff need to access and use information. Tower Hamlets was looking for a solution to make the system more effective for authors and to radically alter the way in which content was being published.

The Council needed to replace its existing CMS with a more user-friendly and technically robust solution capable of managing the large amounts of information on the intranet. Providing up-to-the minute and easily accessible information on internal resources and services is fundamental to the success of any local authority intranet site.

"We needed to improve the content quality of our intranet and change the culture of authoring and publishing to develop a strong knowledge base for our staff. The Immediacy CMS system has helped provide the tools to enable these changes" said Claire Symonds, Service Head Customer Access, London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Tower Hamlets chose Immediacy to replace their existing content management system following a rigorous evaluation process of a number of different CMS providers. Immediacy was selected based its ease-of-use and cost effectiveness along with the addition of its automatic accessibility compliance checker and excellent content management capabilities. A built-in compliance checker is necessary to enable the intranet site to automatically comply with accessibility issues, a key requirement for a local authority.

"The pressure is on for local councils to provide a high standard when it comes to information sharing on their intranets. They must be able to dynamically change content on demand, without compromising on quality or accessibility," said Matt Goode, Sales Director, Immediacy. "The massive amount of uncontrolled information contained on the Tower Hamlets intranet led them to search for a CMS system that took the pain out of information management. We are proud to be a key participant in a project that is now well-placed to deliver the most informed and up-to-date data to employees whenever they need it."

The council is now beginning to focus on phase two of the project, the eventual replacement of the council's public website, which is to be launched early next year.
