The long arm of the social web has moved far beyond the Facebook generation in affecting a candidate’s chances of landing their ideal job. As a result, Executive Search firms performing high profile candidate searches - typically main board positions, Chairmen and CEOs – need to be looking further than their usual background checks.

“Reputations are no longer made in traditional media,” says Andrew Jordan, Chairman of Reputica, an online reputation tracking and reporting company. “You can no longer rely on press cuttings to give you a whole picture of a person”. The company recently launched a new product as part of its reputation management service, aimed at giving Executive Search firms a much deeper understanding of their potential candidates.

The ReputicaCEO™ Search Report provides a summary of all data that exists on a candidate that resides in the public domain. This goes beyond simple news reports, and provides summary data from sources such as blogs, chatrooms, usenets, trade journals and companies house, to provide a far deeper “public perception” of the candidate than would be produced by a normal background-checking service. This has already proven to be particularly important where a role requires certain facets to be present – eco-friendly, business leadership, trade affiliation, and so on. The report also gives a more balanced view of a candidate’s credentials, as it represents real feedback rather than official (and often sanitised) press.

“Even if these senior managers have never written a blog, or posted a comment anywhere, someone else may have written about them or their company” says Jordan. “The sheer strength and speed of our search process means that within minutes we can find information across a far broader spectrum of sources than has been possible previously. This report will give you an unbiased, complete view of exactly what has been said – and by who – about a particular candidate.”
