ECOutlet wins Green Award and doubles donations to green charities Wednesday 31 October 2007 PDF Print Big ideas on a small budget was the winning formula behind ECOutlet's recent success at the Green Awards where the online eco store picked up the Best New Media award for their Internet viral campaign "Paper Water Light Fart". TV presenter and journalist, Penney Poyzer presented the award commenting it was a strong decision for the panel and the judges loved the winner of this category. The four films in the series which to date have been downloaded over 30,000 times on the web each convey their own individual green message. The videos can be viewed on ECOutlet's company blog and dedicated Youtube channel and encourage viewers to switch to energy saving light bulbs, use both sides of paper when printing, eat less meat and consider the environmental implications of drinking bottled water. The videos were all produced at a combined cost of less than £20 showcasing how with a bit of creativity and humour, it's possible to deliver the message of sustainabilty to a large audience on a small budget. "It's all about the idea" - said director and co-founder of ECOutlet, Marco Puig. "If you have a good idea, it does'nt matter how much you spend on the production, the idea will shine through". ECOutlet stock a broad range of eco friendly products which have all been assigned an eco rating of 1 to 5 based on their potential to reduce long-term environmental impact. Customers collect points with every purchase and for every 100 points collected on the site, ECOutlet donates £2.50 to a UK environmental charity. To celebrate the success of the campaign and their Green Award, the company have decided to increase the donations from £2.50 to £5 for every 100 points collected between now and Christmas. In the New Year, ECOutlet will let users decide which charities will benefit by voting in an online poll. The selection includes psychedelic snake draught excluders to add a touch of retro style to the home, recycled belts and wallets made from fire hoses, recycled bottle openers - a great stocking filler for any beer drinkers and the award-wining Presso Coffee Maker a manually operated espresso machine which makes cafe style coffee in your own home.
