7th November 2007 – for immediate release

Items from the estate of well known clockmaker to be auctioned

A number of items belonging to one of the foremost clockmakers of the last hundred years, are to be sold at auction.

William Polonis Roseman was a freeman of the City of London and Chief Horologist at the Royal Observatory in Herstmonceux, East Sussex.

He died in 2005. Items from his estate are for sale at a clocks and antique barometers sale on Tuesday 13th November 2007 in Birmingham, UK.

The sale is being put on by Fellows & Sons.

Managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: “William Polonis Roseman was one of the foremost clockmakers of his generation and one of only two Britons to be awarded the prestigious Kullberg medal from Sweden.

“We are honoured to have been trusted with items from his estate, and consider an auction of antique clocks to be the perfect place to sell them.”

Among the eight items is lot 60, a cased German silver medal presented to Mr Roseman in 1964.

Other items include a reproduction 19th century style French simulated boulle work bracket clock above a pedestal stand, an Omega 1930s bulkhead clock with a brass case, and a Jerome and Co American wall hanging clock.

All of the items can be viewed at the auctioneer’s premises in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

They are also available in an online catalogue which can be viewed here.

During the sale bids can be monitored from anywhere in the world with a live audio feed over the internet, and bids can be made online.
