SPIRE HEALTHCARE AIMS HIGH Wednesday 31 October 2007 PDF Print Spire Healthcare, the new independent healthcare group, formerly BUPA hospitals, is planning to grow its business as it builds on its position as a leading player in the private hospital market. New Spire Hospital signs went up this week at the front of the 25 UK sites, previously owned by the BUPA Group, and Chief Executive Clare Hollingsworth says the firm has big ambitions. "Becoming a stand alone private healthcare company, separate from BUPA, will give us greater freedom to develop our business and offer more services to more people." "We deliberately chose the name ‘Healthcare’ rather than ‘Hospitals’ because we don’t want to limit our ambition. The long term trend is for more care to be delivered outside of the conventional hospital setting, and while our priority will be to develop our existing facilities we will also look at new ways of delivering quality health care services." Private self pay medical and insured work will still be the company’s core business and the sale of the hospital group will not affect BUPA’s insured customers who will continue to be able to use the hospitals as normal, as will customers of all the major health insurers. Spire Healthcare’s private business continues to grow, but now NHS patients can also be treated at Spire Hospitals through their GP, under the government’s Choose and Book scheme. "We’re proud to be working with the NHS by using our spare capacity to bring waiting lists down and offer people a greater choice of quality healthcare. Patients who are referred to a hospital for NHS treatment by their GP should ask to come to a Spire Hospital,” Clare Hollingsworth added. "People will see from our new adverts and patient information that we are putting a special emphasis on our people - from the nursing staff and specialist consultants, to our receptionists and porters. Everyone appreciates that it's not just about treating patients, it's about looking after people. We believe that makes the difference and sets us apart from other private hospitals." "Over the last 25 years we have built up a great reputation among our customers, so we hope that everyone will see that although our brand name has changed, our commitment to deliver excellent service and clinical expertise has not." < ENDS > For more information please contact: Lydia Aydon Head of Communications Spire Healthcare Tel: 0207 656 2129 Mobile: 07894 789 558 http://www.spirehealthcare.com Notes to editors: Spire Healthcare is one of the leading independent hospital providers in the UK, with a 25 year heritage of customer service and clinical excellence.
