The Response Source Journalist Enquiries System is this week celebrating the 50,000th time it has assisted journalists in their research.

Since its launch in 2001 Response Source has helped over 7,000 journalists speed up or widen the scope of their research and enabled countless organisations of all sizes to achieve mentions in the media.

The Response Source Journalist Enquiries System has established itself as a routine weapon in many journalists’ research armoury. Writers from the national, local and trade press as well as consumer magazines and broadcast journalists and researchers use it daily to request help with news or feature articles.

Organisations of all sizes – including large numbers of smaller businesses, charities and public sector bodies – have gained access to media coverage previously reserved for those with big-brand public relations budgets.

Daryl Willcox, founder and chairman of the company behind Response Source, said: “It’s been wonderful watching Response Source grow into something that the journalist and PR communities depend on every day.”

The system allows journalists to submit media requests for information to targeted public relations (PR) professionals from across 25 sectors. The enquiries are carefully formatted to help PR professionals respond quickly and appropriately, resulting in good and swift responses for journalists.

The number of journalist enquiries processed by Response Source has increased every year since its launch in September 2001. In 2007 it is expected to distribute around 15,000 enquiries to several thousand in-house and agency PR professionals.

The landmark figure marks a dual celebration as 2007 is the 10 year anniversary of Daryl Willcox Publishing, which runs the service as part of a responsive and innovative suite of online information services for journalists and PR professionals.

The seeds for the Response Source service were sown in 1998 with the launch of a service specifically for the technology media, now known as Tech Response Source. The success of this led to the launch of the wider service in 2001.
