Loose-Fit Ride the Green Wave

The team at North Devon-based Loose-Fit are incredibly proud to have won the 2007 Surfer’s Path Green Wave Award. This is the second year the business has been nominated for the much coveted Green Wave Award ‘for excellence and achievement in promoting sustainability and consciousness in the surfing world’.

This year Loose-Fit has been announced winners of the Surf Retailers category global award, which aims to raise environmental awareness within the surf industry. Loose-Fit founder Jon Finch is extremely proud of his company’s achievement. “It is through the hard work and commitment of the team that we have been awarded the Green Wave, we are over the moon. This award means a great deal to all of us and highlights the importance of environmental policies in modern business”. Other nominees included howies, patagonia, World Surf Radio, and the founder of the Northern Light range of organic waxes, by Roy Stewart.

Inspired by surfing and the natural environment, Loose-Fit’s flagship store in Braunton, North Devon, is home to an unrivalled selection of hand-crafted surfboards, sourced from world-class shapers in Australia, California and the UK including McTavish, Tyler, Mojito, Gordon & Smith, Takayama, Wegener, Dano and South Coast. The store also stocks an extensive range of clothing from howies, Loose-Fit Organic, The Ryde, RVCA, Mojito and West Wetsuits, specialist surfing equipment, longboard fins and a selection of hand-picked films, books, music and art. The Loose-Fit Organic clothing range is made with the best quality organic cotton and printed using organic inks to ensure minimum environmental impact throughout the entire fabrication process.

Loose-Fit was initially founded as an online business and has maintained its web presence ever since. The website contains information about the company’s ‘green’ ethics, as well as educational material and surf-based news, keeping the surfing community up to date on current issues affecting the sector.

2007 has been a big year and the Loose-Fit team have also won a prestigious Green Apple Award which is designed to recognise, reward and promote best environmental practice and will be presented at the House of Commons next week. Following on from the success in Braunton, the company will be opening a second Loose-Fit store in Bristol during December.

In addition to the recent award nominations Loose-Fit is proud to be the first and only carbon zero surf shop in the world as a result of their pioneering Carbon Zero Surf Campaign. Jon explains “Our commitment to protecting our natural environment and creating a healthier planet is paramount and we are also active members of the organisation ‘1% for the planet’, where as a business we pledge 1% of our net sales to the environment.”
