Community, including partners, users and developers, gathered in Barcelona to gain insight into Openbravo’s leading Open Source ERP software

Pamplona, Spain - November 15, 2007 – Openbravo, the developer of the leading professional web-based open source ERP and POS solutions designed specifically for small and medium businesses, has wrapped up the inaugural Get Together event which has received strong feedback from its attending community.

Held in the world-class city of Barcelona, Spain, from October 26 to 28, 2007, the event brought together partners, users, developers for three days and knowledge-sharing, networking and presentations.

A keynote presentation from Matt Asay, a well-regarded Open Source blogger and VP Business Development for Alfresco Software, Inc. opened the event. His speech examined the most successful mechanisms that open source vendors and projects have found to improve the depth and breadth of their communities, as well as how end users can derive significant benefits from participating in and contributing to relevant open source communities. This message resonated with attendees who were seeking to connect with the Openbravo community and learn how they can increase their participation.

Attendees traveled from 18 different countries to join the event, from locations across North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. More than 60 participants attended partner day and more than 150 community members on the community days.

The community behind Openbravo has been expanding at a rapid rate. Openbravo ERP has grown from less than 100,000 downloads one year ago on SourceForge to over 375,000 at present. The rate of download has been steadily increasing, and along with it, so too has the influx of new community members.

The Openbravo Get Together represented an opportunity to share strategic insight with community members, and display their resolve to further extend their lead in the Open Source ERP market. Open Source is key to Openbravo’s core strategic value: through it, implementers gain greater extendibility, quicker bug fixes, and a lower Total Cost of Ownership. The community showed their enthusiasm for the continual efforts of interoperability with CRM, BI and other systems.

Community members benefited from clear, high-quality presentations which delineated past and future plans for their strategy, product, community and technology. Strategy was highlighted by Manel Sarasa, CEO of Openbravo, in his presentation on “Openbravo in the world of ERP,” including trends in the ERP space, Openbravo’s results and forecast. The success of Openbravo’s ERP solution was delivered in “Success stories,” by Eugeni Vives, Chief Consulting Officer of Openbravo. In the “Openbravo's community services and vision” presentation by Jordi Mas and Josep Mitja, Community Director and COO of Openbravo respectively, the community was applauded and explained ways in which everyone can contribute. Openbravo’s recent achievements and roadmap were delivered in “Openbravo: recent achievements, product roadmap, and community contributions” by Paolo Juvara, Chief Product Officer and new technology was featured in “Openbravo development environment” and “Openbravo Green” by Adrian Romero and Ismael Ciordia, Software Architect and CTO respectively. Manel Sarasa, CEO of Openbravo, said: “Having the opportunity to meet face-to-face with our community members was an incredibly energising experience that gave us further confidence in our future. We had high hopes as downloads and forum activity have been very high, so we know we have a strong virtual community. Discussing our business, product, technology and collaboration mechanisms with them have been key to consolidating our relationship and prioritising our future plans. We are overjoyed with the contributions of our community.”

Jordi Mas, Community Director of Openbravo, said: “I was very happy to receive such universal acceptance for all of what we have accomplished so far and our exciting news: the acquisition of Librepos (formerly Tina POS and now Openbravo POS), Openbravo implementation success stories around the world, our revised product roadmap, and the presentation of our new development environment and our future plans for Openbravo Green. I am proud to be part of a company that truly lives the open source spirit in all product and people-related efforts.”
