“All I want for Christmas is £10m” – that is the message from thousands of users of the independent gift list site http://www.WhatToGive.com, whose total gift value recently broke the £10m mark. The site allows users to create a list of stuff they want for friends and family to look at.

“With some 20K users this works out at about £500 a list,” says Ben Jefferson, the Hebden Bridge-based founder of WhatToGive.com . “It might sound a bit greedy for Christmas but the site is also used by thousands of couples throughout the year to hold their wedding list.”

The site has proved especially popular due to its independence, which allows users to put anything they like on their list, not just items from specific stores. It also allows users to mix and match items from different stores, and to put gifts for charity and
gifts for themselves on the same list.

The site's no-adverts policy also makes it popular with parents, who can safely let children use it to build Christmas lists without fear of being bombarded with ads for toys and games.

The membership of the site has recently been swelled by a new Facebook facility that allows users of the social networking site to create their own list, which can be viewed through Facebook or on the
http://www.whattogive.com website.

Ben founded WhatToGive.com in 2005 when he was at a loss at what to buy his wife for her birthday. The site was a runner-up in The Daily Telegraph’s Trailblazers Business Awards, 2006.
