New pensions training seminars from Fidelity International - Most pensions training “unnecessarily complex” for HRs Tuesday 20 November 2007 PDF Print The recent pension training seminars from leading asset management company Fidelity International have been such a resounding success that additional events are scheduled. Fidelity International is continuing its defined contribution pensions training seminars, with a particular focus on the needs of human resources and employee benefits staff. The move follows successful events earlier in the year in Glasgow and London. The latest seminar is in London in November. Most pensions industry training for HR staff has hitherto focused on in-depth analysis of investment asset classes – largely because the training models employed by the industry are still focused upon trustees of defined benefit or final salary pension schemes. Fidelity's new approach to training takes in much broader investment issues, focusing on those areas in which company management need to make decisions and offer guidance to employees. Colin Williams, Executive Director of DC Business at Fidelity International, says: "We launched these seminars earlier in the year and have been inundated with demand for more, particularly from directors of human resources. “They find most pensions industry training unnecessarily complex because it focuses on in-depth analysis of investment asset class performance. While this model may be fine for the world of defined benefit pensions, it is outmoded for the world of defined contributions." Fidelity’s pensions training seminars cover four areas: 1. Setting the scene – What the members want – What the regulations demand 2. Assets – What are they? – What are the risks? 3. Real life – DC investment strategies 4.
