PARENTS COULD CLAIM BACK £1000 EACH IN CHILD TAX ALLOWANCE REBATES SAY EXPERTS Monday 26 November 2007 PDF Print Working parents of children born between 6th April 1985 and 5th April 2003 could be entitled to Child Tax Allowance rebates averaging up to £1000 each – provided they make a claim by 31 January 2008. According to Inland Revenue agents Tax Rebate Services, thousands of pounds is potentially owed British taxpaying parents under the old Child Tax Allowance scheme (since replaced by Child Tax Credit). “The allowance was made through a parent’s tax code and was randomly allocated rather than applied for,” said Tax Rebate Services’ Managing Director Paul Donohoe. “Many parents were left out and remain unaware of their entitlement.” A combination of tax payers’ ignorance and unfamiliarity with the Child Tax Allowance among frontline Inland Revenue staff currently stands between claimants and their money. “With the best will in the world, it can be time consuming and off putting for parents to manage the claim process themselves,” added Donohoe. With the deadline for 2001/02 tax year rebates fast approaching (31 January 2008), Tax Rebate Services provides a professional, no rebate – no fee service for any parent wishing to check out their entitlement to a Child Tax Allowance rebate. “All we need to start is an individual’s PAYE code for 2002/03,” Donohoe went on. “This is obtainable from a P60 or any payslip for that tax year or, alternatively, from your local tax office. “If the code number is below 600 – in the 4-500s, say – then a claim is usually valid. The procedure is quite painless and just requires a few personal details and the completion of three simple forms. Successful claims are charged a fee of 30 per cent of the rebate which includes VAT. “The Revenue won’t offer any tax rebate of its own accord,” said Donohoe, “and with the onus on the individual tax player to take the initiative and claim, seeking professional help to smooth the way can be very helpful. “We assure clients of a confidential service that will exploit our professional tax knowledge on their behalf.” Note to editors: Tax Rebate Services is a limited company and authorised Inland Revenue agent.
