Christmas in the Caribbean

Christmas is the biggest festival in the Caribbean with plenty of partying, feasting, music and dancing. Masquerade bands play Christmas music on the streets and people wear masks designed to look like cow heads, horse heads, policemen or the devil.

People in the Caribbean usually decorate their houses with Christmas flowers as well as a Christmas tree. Many people re-decorate their houses for Christmas too; walls are painted, new curtains are put up, and new furniture is purchased or old furniture is polished and varnished or repainted.

If you fancy throwing a Caribbean Christmas Party, have plenty of Jewel Isle Rum Punch ready to serve on ice, and serve up some traditional Caribbean Christmas food including chilli prawns, fried chicken, roast potatoes with melted cheese, colourful pilau rice, macaroni cheese pie, and rice and peas. For pudding, mango and rum fruit salad, or a rum and cream bread and butter pudding.

Company information

Jewel Isle Rum Punch is made by Jewel Isle Productions, which is a family business formed in December 2004 by Anita Witter, who is supported by her husband, Carlton, and daughter, Sheryl. Anita Witter is no stranger to business. Her father was a successful and respected businessman in Jamaica, where he owned three bars, a restaurant and acted as a property agent for UK residents who own properties on the island. In addition, Anita’s mother, who moved to Canada in the early 1970s, ran her own successful real estate business. It was a natural progression for Anita to eventually run her own company.

Stepping into her 40s Anita began to analyse her life and came to the conclusion that ‘business was in the blood’. After 16 years working at Coca-Cola, Anita established Jewel Isle Productions Ltd. Making rum punch with the secret family recipe for friends and family on many party occasions was nothing new for Anita, but she began to take note of people’s comments, and as she says: “the light switched on…” There were numerous personal and industry hurdles to overcome but Anita says: “I never lost the smell, the taste, nor the drive, enthusiasm, passion or sight of where we were heading.”

Jewel Isle Rum Punch was officially launched at The Jamaican High Commission In October 2005. Shortly after the launch, the Black Business Initiatives Awards awarded Anita the title of ‘New Entrepreneur 2005’.

Whilst the Tropical Flavour is based on the family recipe, Anita developed the Pineapple-Ginger and Lemon-lime flavours herself, for which she was presented with the Silver Award at the BFIIN (British Female Inventors and Innovative Network) in the Exceptionally Creative category.
