ABE’s IT Manager helps BitDefender to debug new generation Mail Server products. Wednesday 28 November 2007 PDF Print Mike Askew IT manager for ABE, the professional standards body for business and management qualifications, has won the laptop offered by BitDefender in its call for beta testers for its new version Windows mail server product, BitDefender Security for Exchange. ABE uses BitDefender security software to protect its corporate network. Currently this organisation has five licenses for BitDefender Security for File Servers, one each for BitDefender Security for Exchange, BitDefender Enterprise Manager and BitDefender Client Security on 30 desktops. Mike Askew also uses BitDefender to protect his home PC. Commenting on his experience with the Exchange product, Mike said: “We started with a standard installation of BitDefender for Exchange Server 1.9, but due to residual out-dated AV software (from a previous supplier) and a multitude of viruses, already present on the machine, we encountered a number of problems.” “The problems were resolved with help from the BitDefender technical support team. Having got the Exchange server up and running, we could see that ABE’s existing setup would benefit greatly from the upgrades intended for release in v2.” “We therefore agreed to take part in the beta testing of BD Exchange v2 starting with release 2, and continuing through release 3 and 4. The final release saw BD Exchange integrate successfully with BD File Server which suited our requirements nicely. We are now running V2 without any problems.” For BitDefender, Mike’s participation in the beta program was ‘of great value', said, Windows Server Product Manager, Clara Cismaru. “With his enthusiasm and constant feedback, he helped us improve our product and gave us the confidence that it would meet the needs of our customers, and was ready for general release.” About the product: The new generation of BitDefender Security for Exchange and BitDefender Security for Mail Servers (Windows) introduce many feature enhancements as well as additional functionality. Primarily this upgrade is aimed at helping to manage the influx of spam and malware directed at the messaging environment. A multi-layered antispam approach has been taken to stop spam as early as possible. As the number of content-security threats is continuously growing, BitDefender has added antispyware support as well as content and attachment filtering to prevent the overloading of the messaging environment and the theft of confidential and valuable data. User and Group Policies give the new generation of products more flexibility and the ease of use of its interface keeps administration workloads and costs at a very low level.
