Business Turnaround Twins Sweep the Board Tuesday 4 December 2007 PDF Print Two of the greatest names in business turnaround joined forces on Monday evening to defeat their opposition. Retail kings Stuart Rose and Charles Wilson swept the board to claim the top awards given by Europe’s most challenging judges – their peers in the turnaround community. Stuart Rose, Chief Executive, Marks and Spencer plc, received the Chairman’s Special Award for outstanding performance in turnaround and accepted an Honorary Fellowship of the Society of Turnaround Professionals (STP.) Mr Rose’s achievement at Marks and Spencer was described by Deloitte’s corporate finance chief Aidan Birkett as, “The greatest turnaround in history.” The Chief Executive of Booker plc, Charles Wilson, carried off the Private Company of the Year Turnaround award for transforming Booker Limited. Stuart Rose said, "Charles Wilson was a key member of the M&S turnaround team after we joined the Company at the same time. We had previously worked together at Booker and Arcadia and our working relationship was based on mutual trust which allowed each of us to concentrate on our respective areas of strength."
