Antics Technologies launches free 3D animation software

Cambridge, UK, 4th December 2007 – Antics Technologies has today released a free version of its real-time animation software that until now has been the reserve of film professionals such as Jim Rygiel, Oscar-winning VFX supervisor on The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

Now, anyone with an interest in animation can use Antics V3 to create animated clips quickly and easily on their home PC. Everyday film buffs and film students have an opportunity to sit in the director’s chair and produce their own film shorts and create alternative endings for their favourite films. Animation hobbyists can take advantage of the easy-to-use tool set and create 3D animated pieces in a fraction of the time associated with using traditional 3D applications. Antics can also be used by professional creatives as a powerful pre-visualisation tool that can help them to bring their script ideas to life and to plan shoots before they spend time and money on set.

The launch of Antics V3 comes at a time when Machinima, the art of filmmaking using real-time computer games engine technology, is becoming increasingly popular. More and more people are using Machinima as a way to create character rich stories and sequences without the need for expensive tools or production teams. Antics V3 provides the necessary tools so that anyone can create Machinima.

Alastair Woolley, managing director of Antics explains:

“With the latest version, we’re opening up animation for everyone. People with an interest in filmmaking or those who simply have a story to tell now have access to a powerful tool which can bring their ideas to life. We’ve taken the complicated calculations out of animation by using intelligent props and characters, so a simple ‘point and click’ action will move a character from A to B in a single command. While the software helps make animation more accessible, it is still sophisticated enough to build complex scenes and stories. The only real limitation when using Antics is the user’s imagination.”

Once downloaded, users can access the Antics online content library, which contains a variety of free characters, props and sets, ranging from Wild West scenes to a modern city landscape. Users can buy additional content for their animated stories from the Antics web site and can also import third party 3D objects and animations freely available on the web.

Users can also share their animated stories with a mass audience by posting their creations on social networking sites, such as Facebook and YouTube, or on the Antics forum, which has been created for animators to share how they are using Antics, swap animation tips and meet like minded creative people.

Antics V3 contains significant improvements over previous versions including support for import of external content in a wide variety of formats, scaling of props and improved camera operations.

As well as releasing a base version of the latest Antics software, a ProPack version, which includes free access to all Premium content and enhanced support, is available at a launch promotional price of $395/€265/£195 (RRP - $595/€395/£295). Offer ends 14/01/07.
