WEB SITE TO HEAVEN?

The re-launch of Led Zeppelin this month, could have fans reaching for their computer keyboards as well as strumming their air guitars – thanks to an interactive web site designed in the Midlands.

Did you know for example that the group first performed as ‘The New Yardbirds’? Or that lead singer Robert Plant was born in West Bromwich?

The site designed for BBC Hereford and Worcester has already attracted thousands of visitors since it was set up in late September. Creative and technical input for the site came from Persuaders Media – a digital marketing agency based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

Co-founder of the Company, Stephen Aris who lives in a village close to Malvern explains;

“We worked with the BBC to create an interactive map of the region charting the last forty years. The map is really about people’s stories - rather about the artists themselves. Hereford and Worcester has a truly rich musical heritage, and I was amazed to find out that my local village pub was the local for Black Sabbath – and that they recorded nearby; that Eric Clapton actually played another small pub close by - as a bet with Elton John and Ian Botham.’’

The site includes a collection of amazing stories about famous rock stars that were either born or played in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. You can find out:

• Why The Beatles, just as they hit the big-time, chose to play at a tiny club on the banks of the River Severn.
• What Robert Plant and John Bonham got up to during their pre-Led Zeppelin days
• Why Bob Dylan went ghost hunting at a ruined stately home in Worcestershire.
• Which club in Kidderminster had John Peel as its DJ.

And if you have a story to tell about meeting a rock legend in the two Counties, or remember going to a local gig to see a band that became famous, then you can go to the site and record your own memories.”

James Coghill, Managing Director of BBC Hereford and Worcester said,
"Even the most fervent music fan doesn't really realise just how much musical heritage we've got in our area, and the Music Map is proving addictive - once you start to explore it's difficult to stop!"

Led Zeppelin are understood to be re-forming on 10th December for a show at London's 02 arena — a benefit tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun, the co-founder of Atlantic Records
