Winners Announced at Inaugural European Datacentre Industry Awards Friday 7 December 2007 PDF Print A 500-strong audience of datacentre professionals, infrastructure vendors and service providers attended the inaugural Datacentre Industry Leaders Awards held at the Brewery, Chiswell Street. The Awards are the first of their kind to celebrate the successes of those who design and operate datacentres. Commenting on the winners, Awards Producer, George Rockett said “DatacenterDynamics is proud to host an event which recognise the importance of the datacentre sector and those who work in it, as well as the role they collectively play in supporting both the economic and social life of Europe.” The judging panel comprised leading names and innovators drawn from the datacentre industry and included Patrick Fogarty of Norman Disney Young, Tony Over of Axiom Managed Services, Geoff Prudence of Essex County Council, Tony Day of APC-MGE, Robert Thorogood of Hurley Palmer Flatt, Andrew Jay of CB Richard Ellis and Ian Bitterlin of Chloride Power. Following on from an entertaining and incisive speech by Iain Duncan-Smith, 10 Awards were made by the evening’s compere, comedian and television presenter, Marcus Brigstocke. With the emphasis on the application of new technology and innovative solutions, Awards were presented to the owners and operators of Micro-Datacentres, Medium-sized Datacentres and Mega-Datacentres. Investment in the Public Sector was also highlighted during the evening. Citigroup’s new EMEA datacentre won the Green Datacentre Award. The facility demonstrates attention to environmental considerations from initial project planning and throughout the whole building life cycle. It has been designed and constructed to LEED standards minimising its environmental impact through careful materials selection, water management techniques, the incorporation of an organic wall and roof and its use of free cooling The Datacentre Industry Leaders Awards also commended a broad spectrum of career experience ranging from “Young Mission Critical Engineer of the Year” presented to Sophia Flucker of Consultant Engineering firm, EYP MCF, to the “Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Datacentre Industry” made to Don Beaty of ASHRAE's Technical Committee TC 9.9 for his lifetime’s work in the sector.
