Movello, a new breed of Docklands Estate Agent and only two years old, has won the National Estate Agent of the Year Award for Best Lettings Agency.

The agency were also shortlisted for Best Marketing Campaign. The award was presented by Mariella Frostrup at an awards ceremony on Friday 30th November in central London, attended by over 400 estate agents from around the country. Movello were shortlisted last year for the best use of technology.

The judges commented in the judges report "Innovative, professional and ethical, their ethos has always been 'To Be The Best', and this award shows they are well on their way there".

What qualities helped you win the award?

Our lettings service is second to none because of the pride we take in what we do. Our team wants to be the best and continually strives to exceed landlord and tenant expectations. In a market such as docklands where there are over 40 agents the competition is fierce and performance is measured by the quality of service and volume of apartments that are let. We excel in the amount of instructions we receive and this is purely down to referral business from tenants and landlords. Movello’s motto of “moving made personal” make us unique from our competitors and our actions back up our statements as clients will testify.

What did the lettings award honor?

This category is open to agencies which exclusively offer a lettings service or which deal with lettings as well as sales. The winners will have shown how they deliver a very high standard of service for both landlords and tenants.

How do you differ from other agents?

The main driver for attracting new tenants is the quality of the stock we have available. Negotiators are targeted and rewarded for bringing on new properties and we get new properties professionally photographed and advertised within 24 hours. We offer new tenants one weeks free membership (worth £50) to the Reebok Gym in Canary Wharf which is the biggest and best equipped gym in London. We also offer competitive administration fees compared to other agents which regularly makes the difference between a tenant using us over other agents.

What was special about the marketing campaign?

The theme of the marketing campaign was “Are you Movello?” The objective was to associate the name of the company with living the Docklands lifestyle and build the Movello brand as the leading agent in the Docklands market. The “are you Movello?” theme started as a teaser in our print advertising and led to the public asking “Who are Movello?”.
The culmination of the campaign was the launch of the Movello Magazine which set out to explain what was Movello by way of a fun questionnaire to find out “How Movello are you?”

The launch of the magazine was backed up by direct mail to a carefully selected database of potential clients. Using a mailing house, we selected 1000 of the highest value addresses in our area to send a personal copy of the magazine. We also employed a distribution company to deliver door to door as well as distributed in carefully selected local restaurants, bars and hotels. An online campaign was launched to promote a digital IMag version of the magazine one week prior to the print launch. The digital version of the magazine was also heavily promoted through our website.

We believe no other agency has had the vision to carry through a project of this sophistication. The decision to commission and launch a lifestyle magazine, in the focused manner and stylish execution, remains a unique achievement. It demonstrates a long term commitment to building and extending the brand as well as a long term commitment to the geographical areas in which Movello currently and in future will operate. Whilst it is of course a commercial exercise the benefits in terms of the local communities are clear - by creating a platform and unique voice in Docklands and helping to sustain the communities we work with and serve are irrefutable.

What plans do Movello have for the future?

We plan to open a new office in 2008 which will provide a meeting area for our clients and an improved working environment for our staff. We also plan to launch the company in E1, E3 and E15. We will be striving to improve everything we do with the aim of winning further awards in 2008.

About Mariella Frostrup

A journalist and television presenter, well known on British TV and radio.

Frostrup has interviewed many different celebrities, writers and other artists and has presented a variety of different TV programmes, including one on travel, and has appeared in other TV shows such as the series Have I Got News for You and the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She made several guest appearances as herself in the series Coupling including an episode where one of the characters fantasizes about her, then meets her in person.

Frostrup presented the BBC Radio 2 show, The Green Room, and also regularly presents Open Book (most Sundays and Thursdays) on Radio 4. She is widely viewed as having left-of-centre political views.

She writes for The Guardian, The Observer, The Mail on Sunday, Harpers & Queen and the New Statesman. She is also an art critic and has been on the judging panels for the Man Booker Prize, the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Evening Standard British Film Awards.
She has two children and lives in London.

In September 2007 she chaired a Question & Answer session with Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth.
