Data Encryption Systems signs agreement which sees DESlock+ as the only data encryption tool being formally offered to almost 5 million students and staff in The Netherlands

Taunton, UK— 18th December, 2007—Data Encryption Systems Limited (DES), the UK-based leader in software copyright protection, data encryption, secure messaging and data storage solutions, today announced that it has signed a major deal with the Dutch Education IT Service Provider, SURFdiensten, to provide data protection, via its flagship encryption tool DESlock+, to almost five million users.

The agreement makes DESlock+ the sole offering to Dutch Educational Establishments through the SURF Network, which also covers a large part of Belgium and even some UK establishments, including: 38 vocational education institutes, 305 higher education, universities and libraries, 735 secondary schools, and 8,500 primary schools. In total this includes over 450,000 full-time staff, 4 million full-time students and over 400,000 part-time students.

David Tomlinson, Managing Director for DES, explains: “This is a very important deal, which has been in the pipeline for a while now and we are delighted to have signed off on it. The Contract covers a wide range of establishments from primary schools to universities. Last week we completed training for the first 125 IT coordinators (primary education), and we will be working closely with these organisations in preparation for the introduction of DESlock+ to the schools in January.”

Since its introduction DESlock+ has appealed to a broad section of the market and as a result has taken DES into a much wider arena. DESlock+ helps organisations to protect against all types of data breach by offering simple, yet extremely powerful, encryption of documents, folders, disks and removable storage media, and computer systems. Today, DES has a wide spread user base and the potential for the product is enormous.

The agreement sees DESlock+ as the only data encryption tool formally offered to these establishments under large scale educational licensing agreements and is fully supported by DES’ partners in the Netherlands: SURFdiensten, SLBdiensten and APS IT-diensten.

SLBdiensten and APS IT-diensten are both part of SURFdiensten. SURFdiensten is integral to the Dutch Education Board’s procurement process as it approves, supplies and supports all purchases of software for all educational institutions in The Netherlands, including everything from academic medical centres, research institutions, and technological institutes, through to libraries and museums and all universities, schools, vocational training facilities, everything that impacts on education.

Jan Bakker, Managing Director of SURFdiensten, comments: "We have high expectations about the partnership with Data Encryption Systems. Data encryption is getting more important in the information society we're living in today and DESlock+ is an interesting tool for Dutch educational institutions to protect the privacy of their staff, students and pupils.”
