Retail Week editor says it’s not all doom!

Editor of Retail Week, Tim Danaher makes his announcement following the current Christmas trading figures. Danaher says: “The Christmas trading updates from retailers such as Marks & Spencer and DSGi show just how tough the climate has become for retailers. But it isn't all doom, and those retailers that get it right can still prosper. The key is really understanding the market and your consumer, ensuring you are offering the best products at the right price, and really providing a great retail experience, whether that be in stores or, increasingly, online."

With only a few weeks to go to the Retail Week Conference, the most important date in the retail calendar, Sir John Collins (Chairman of DSGi (Currys/PC World/Dixons) who is speaking at the event says: “We are all keenly aware of the tougher environment facing our industry. The global credit crunch and stagnating economy are limiting consumers' disposable income, but not their expectations of value, freedom of choice or an exceptional shopping experience. I believe that the retailers who will succeed in 2008 and beyond will be those who put specialisation at the top of their agenda.” Sir John Collins will be talking about how to be successful in an increasingly competitive environment, delivering customer satisfaction and the future for a growing retail sector at the two day conference in March.

Confirmed speakers at the event include Sir Stuart Rose (Marks & Spencer), Martha Lane Fox (lastminute.com), Stefano Pessina (Alliance Boots), Charles Dunstone (Carphone Warehouse), Charlie Mayfield (John Lewis Partnership), Laura Wade-Gery (Tesco.com), Simon Fox (HMV), and John King (House of Fraser.

As retailers look to find new ways to keep ahead of an increasingly overcast global economic landscape, now, more than ever, they need to show their skill and innovation in keeping the UK marketplace buoyant into 2008 and onwards.

The event, to be held on 12-13 March 2008 at London Hilton Metropole, is considered the only event for the leaders of retail in the UK. Organisers Retail Week continue to exceed expectations with an enviable list of confirmed speakers, informed content and senior level attendees that will set the agenda for trading well into 2008-9.
