As the New England Squad are Discovering, Coaching is About to Grow Up Tuesday 12 February 2008 PDF Print London, UK, February 12th 2008 Taking a leaf from new England Coach Fabio Capello’s book, Steve Errey - a leading confidence coach in the UK - is talking about the need for the life coaching industry to grow up and face the issues that are holding it back, or run the risk that it will only ever deliver just a fraction of its promise. Errey talks about what he calls coaching 2.0 – a new method of coaching clients that ensures results. Errey says, “The problem with traditional coaching is that there’s no certainty in what the client gets, if anything at all. You go to an accountant because you’re getting a professional service that meets a need you have; you go to a lawyer because you have a solid degree of certainty in what you’re getting for your money. All the time there’s no certainty in the outcome there’s absolutely no reason for a client to go a coach. Why would you spend a lot of money on a service where you have no idea what you’re getting?” The core of the problem is that traditional coaching is based on the principle that a coachee needs to find their own answers and that the coach shouldn’t direct things. What that boils down to is that it’s nearly impossible for a client to understand what they’re purchasing, and that means that coaching remains a niche service despite its huge potential. Coaching 2.0 is about giving the client the benefits they’re looking for and providing solid expertise to solve their problem; it’s about giving them real value for money. Christian Mickelson, a successful business coach in the USA, agrees with Steve. “If a client is going to pay you hundreds or even thousands of dollars every month, they want to know what they are going to get for their money. And what they are buying is speed (they want to go faster), and certainty (they want to know that they are going to get there).” Fabio Capello isn’t going to leave the England team to their own devices and he’s made it clear that he isn’t scared of directing things his way or using his own expertise to lead the team to real success. When first appointed as England Coach, Fabio said “It’s a team that needs to find itself and that will be my role.” Fabio’s created more certainty in the future of the England team than there’s been for years. That’s exactly what needs to happen to the coaching industry, and that’s exactly what coaching 2.0 is all about. -ends- For more information contact: Steve Errey on 0845 644 3001, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.theconfidenceguyonline.com.
