Latest data highlights increased multi-sourcing trend

20 February 2008; Media alert (for immediate use):

IT outsourcing buyers in the BeLux, Netherlands, Nordics and UK have, on average, three or more current relationships with ITO service providers per region, and some have active ITO engagements with over 10 different ITO providers according to findings being published today by EquaTerra (‘The Pros, Cons and Market Trending for Multi-sourced ITO’).

Additionally, the recent 4Q07 EquaTerra Pulse survey found that 29 per cent of ITO service providers polled were seeing more multi-sourcing deals in the market, while just five percent were seeing more single - sourced deals (using one provider).

While these numbers do not even include non - outsourcing IT service providers relationships, such as those delivering consulting or systems integration work, the overall findings have reinforced the fact that multi-sourcing is becoming more common in the ITO market in both Europe and the Americas.

Stan Lepeak, Managing Director, EquaTerra Research explained “Some ITO buyers are proactively entering into multi-sourced engagements in pursuit of ‘best of breed’ service provider scenarios. More often, though, buyers are backing into multi-sourcing through an ongoing accumulation of ITO and BPO efforts”.

“This can create some real challenges around governance, integration and overall responsibility for service delivery. The onus is on ITO buyers to determine how to maximise the opportunities and efficiencies that multi-sourcing can offer, whilst still ensuring they are achieving long term goals through effective governance” he warned.

Notes to editors:

Multi-sourcing means that buyers are using multiple ITO service providers to support different IT functions and processes, and across different regions and business units. Further, as ITO buyers increasingly pursue business process outsourcing (BPO) efforts, the number and type of outsourcing service providers introduced into buyers’ networks also expands.
