The Russians Are Coming Wednesday 26 March 2008 PDF Print Enthusiasm for a British education is on the rise amongst students from Russia, with the number of applications growing faster than any other nationality, according to enrolment figures released today by Study Group International, global leader in international education. January enrolment figures at Study Group’s £30m Brighton Study Centre show a year on year increase of 21 per cent in Russian students. Second only to Chinese students, Russian applicants make up the largest segment of the entire student body at the Brighton Study Centre, which attracts students from over 120 different countries. James Pitman, managing director of Study Group UK, commented: “Following the recent closure of the British Council offices in Russia, fears of a weakening relationship between British and Russian education sectors have been widespread. I’m delighted that these results show such concerns to be unfounded, and that the enthusiasm of Russian students for the gold standard education the UK offer has, if anything, increased. “Even the tightening of the application process for student visas in Russia has failed to have an adverse affect on applications, and we look forward to welcoming an ever increasing enrolment base from this part of the world.” ENDS Media Contact: Becky Barr, hblmedia, 0207 612 1830, 0783 007 6062, email@example.com Notes to Editors: About Study Group International CHAMP Private Equity, in partnership with Petersen Investments, took ownership of Study Group International Limited for AU$176.4 million in 2006.
