Company Strengthens Senior Management to Prepare for Next Phase of Growth

EGS Ltd, the UK’s largest and fastest growing e-Commerce Exchange for the public sector and its suppliers, today announced the appointment of Peter Whent as Chief Executive. Peter will oversee the operational management and strategic direction of EGS for its next phase of growth and development. Transactions in EGS’ exchanges have surpassed 250,000 purchases per year, whilst its market share of the UK public sector now exceeds fifty percent, making it the most successful public sector e-Procurement Exchange in Europe.

Peter brings more than a decade of senior management experience with a proven track record in building companies in the technology, business services and billing sectors. Peter was previously Chief Executive of Wishstream Ltd, an electronic billing specialist, and Managing Director of Xpedite Systems Ltd, a value added telecommunications specialist, where he grew the business from £9 million revenues to in excess of £20 million in just three years. He is also the former co-founder of Transmit International, where he helped build a global presence and win a range of blue chip customers worldwide. Peter’s appointment follows the appointment of Jerry Ellis earlier this year as Executive Chairman.

“EGS is the clear market leader in a strong market sector with enormous potential,” said Peter Whent, Chief Executive of EGS Ltd. “Many other companies have tried to build successful exchanges but have failed to understand the requirements of working with the public sector and supporting collaborative supplier relationships. EGS has created a strong and loyal customer base. The company is at a very exciting stage and I’m keen to apply my management experience to spearhead the next stage of growth ahead of us.”

Fuelled by demand for its automated end-to-end pay to purchase processes, EGS’ products and services are now used by 150 buying organisations across the public sector, more than 20,000 suppliers, as well as the majority of the major public purchasing consortia. There is £100 billion of e-procureable spend in the UK public sector every year. The combined efficiencies of business process cost savings and eProcurement and eInvoicing cost savings delivered by EGS have the potential to save the public purse well over £1 billion per annum. EGS has almost one million online catalog items, the largest available in the market.

EGS’ e-Procurement solutions and e-Invoicing solutions for both supply-side and buy-side efficiencies provide an end-to-end transaction process, and EGS is the only coherent, complete lifecycle solution available on the market today. EGS focuses its business around four major exchanges: the IDeA:marketplace for Local Government, the Bluelight Marketplace for Police
and Emergency Services, Parabilis for universities the higher education sector and Unity for the further education sector.
