Computacenter slashes Inside Sales travel expenses by over 90% with interactive collaboration solutions from SMART Technologies Tuesday 8 April 2008 PDF Print Bagshot, Surrey, 8th April 2008; Steljes, the specialist technology distributor, today announced that one of its key trade partners Computacenter has made long haul flights for hour long meetings a thing of the past, by using interactive collaboration solutions from SMART Technologies. Computacenter worked with Steljes to help address many of the common problems associated with running a business with multiple branches. Steljes supported a pilot scheme to help solve these problems, working initially with the internal sales group. Problems for the internal sales group included vast amounts of travel, its associated expenses and the geographic spread of each team. Additionally Computacenter wanted to reduce its carbon footprint by cutting down on flying multiple employees to different locations for very short meetings. The pilot started in May 2007 with Steljes installing an interactive solution comprising of 600i SMART boards, and Bridgit™ SMART’s data conferencing software. Chris Hanson, Internal Sales Director at Computacenter, led the project; “every child knows how to use an interactive whiteboard, but adults just don’t. I wanted to see how easy it would be to introduce the boards into a business, instead of a school. After the introduction of the whiteboard, my expenses dropped tenfold. You can imagine what the figures would look like if 4,500 employees were also using the solution.” One of the many ways the internal sales team uses the solution is to chair meetings and interact with staff across the UK, or internally, with an average of 8 attendees from up to 7 different locations taking part. Internal sales gain interactivity primarily through laptops, whereas others use it to capture diagrams and conduct brainstorming sessions via installed SMART Boards. After the start of the pilot, my average mileage has now dropped by 75%” he continued. Because of the popularity of the board within Computacenter, and as the SMART Board/Bridgit solution is already in commercial use, the company estimates that it will need to formalise the programme soon and take on more licences to expand internally. With regards to creating a solution for its customers, the company recognises the benefits this could bring to a business with a mobile workforce, across a wide geographic spread.
