Waleli-developed MailMania wireless photo frame alerts users to the email they want Wednesday 23 April 2008 PDF Print April 23rd; The first product to use new email alert technology developed by wireless innovation firm Waleli is a photo frame that lets people know when they’ve got mail from chosen friends, colleagues or family members. MailMania uses a wireless connection to a PC, which can be up to 20 metres away from the photo frame – in a home office, for example. Using a software application on the PC, the user simply selects which email addresses he or she would like to be alerted about. The MailMania software then monitors the user’s inbox and, as soon as email from one of these addresses is received, triggers an LED inside the photo frame to start flashing. MailMania can also be set up to alert users to Instant Messages or VoIP calls from their chosen contacts or to bid alerts from online auction sites. With the MailMania photo frame placed in a convenient central location, such as a living room or kitchen, users are free to relax or get on with other tasks, knowing they will not miss any emails or other messages from the people who are important to them. “Some people consider always being in contact to be stressful, while others want to be reachable at all times,” said Nico Witteman, Co-founder MailMania. “Whichever group you fall into, managing this ‘always on’ lifestyle is a key challenge – one that MailMania is designed to address in a fun, easy-to-use way. The product is generating great interest from consumers, Internet service providers and gift and gadget suppliers alike.” Dutch market research company Ruigrok|NetPanel is already taking advantage of MailMania. Marja Ruigrok, Managing Director of Ruigrok|NetPanel commented, “This is just the kind of innovative give-away our clients will enjoy using. For us it offers the right balance of novelty and user value, at a very affordable price.” MailMania has three elements: a photo frame receiver, a USB transmitter and application software. The photo frame and USB transmitter can be branded with custom logos and messages – and a custom paper photo can be inserted into the photo frame – making MailMania ideal as a corporate gift, or service provider give-away for customers. It will also be possible to order MailMania in other customised form factors, subject to minimum order volumes. MailMania is priced at between EUR34.95 and EUR49.95 per unit, depending on volumes, and is available to order immediately from www.mailmania.nl, as well as through selected resellers. About Waleli and MailMania MailMania is a spin-out company of Waleli, one of the new breed of independent high-tech companies that look for ways to apply the latest technologies in innovative products or services, rather than being driven by (or tied to) specific technologies. Waleli develops and markets products under its own brand, as well as working in partnership with larger organizations like Philips and Siemens to help them identify new product concepts and ‘fast-track’ their development. The company was formed in 2002, and is based in central Amsterdam. It completed its second round of financing in June 2006.
