Following the Met Office’s announcement of a warmer than average summer, LateRooms.com is on a mission to reconnect people with the great outdoors.

The late availability accommodation specialist has selected several outdoor attractions holding events over the May Bank holiday weekend. The website features accommodation all over the UK enabling people to make the most of the spring bank holiday in some of the country’s best gardens.

Two classic heritage sites in the North of England are pulling out all the stops.

The magnificent Alnwick Gardens offer spectacular water displays, wonderful gardens and one of the largest tree houses in the world. Visitors on Bank Holiday Monday can join artist Karen Rann to help create a large flag decorated with imaginative sea creatures.

Adjacent Alnwick Castle, which fans of the Harry Potter film series will recognise as Hogwarts School of Magic, is giving children the opportunity to meet lookalikes of the film’s most popular characters such as Hagrid, Professor Dumbledore and even Harry himself on Bank Holiday Monday.

LateRooms features a range of bed and breakfasts, guesthouses and hotels in the North East, all perfect for the bank holiday weekend. Availability is limited on the Saturday night but is still reasonable on the Sunday. The newly refurbished White Swan Hotel in Alnwick has twin rooms available from £130. Newcastle is only a 40 minute drive away & offers some good deals and a wider choice with hotels like the Greystreethotel offering rooms from £79

In Cheshire, Tatton Park starts its biennial celebrations on Saturday, May 3. Using the 1000-acre park and mansion as inspiration, over 30 writers, artists and performers have been commissioned to develop new work for the commemoration.

Anyone in need of design tips can visit the park’s 10th annual ‘Design Weekend’, showcasing new and classic ideas for the home and garden. LateRooms has over 80 hotels in nearby Manchester, meaning a visit to the show can be combined with a shopping spree in the city. The Novotel Manchester City Centre currently has rooms available from £71 on the Sunday night.

Further South, the Lost Gardens of Heligan have organised a day of traditional Cornish family fun on Monday, May 5. With a hog roast, music marquee, wildlife tours and even a working dog demonstration, people can experience true Cornish life with beautiful gardens as a backdrop.

For a more contemporary experience, The Eden Project will be in full bloom following the spring emergence of two million bulbs. The sea of colour is accompanied by a new science exhibition on Thursday, May 1, which explores the phenomenon of how plants adapt to their environment.

LateRooms has over 30 hotels in Cornwall within ten miles of both of these Cornish attractions, so visitors can take advantage of the longer daylight hours by choosing somewhere nearby to stay. The Fowey hotel is conveniently situated for Heligan and the Eden project and has rooms available from £89.00.

“After last year’s wet summer, the news of a warmer 2008 is coaxing people out of their homes and back into the great British countryside,” said Chris Morris, managing director at LateRooms. “There is a multitude of beautiful gardens and heritage attractions in the UK, which can be explored at length over the bank holiday weekend.”
