New software connects Anoto Digital Pen to BlackBerry Wednesday 28 May 2008 PDF Print A new software package from PaperIQ will make it easier for end-users to combine the benefits of two of the most popular productivity tools, BlackBerry® smartphones and Digital Pen and Paper (DPP). The Anoto Digital Pen Integration Kit for BlackBerry provides everything required to integrate Anoto’s digital pen technology with a BlackBerry smartphone application or enterprise system. As it is an ‘out-of-the-box’ solution that requires little development, the integration kit will make it easier for channel partners and in-house IT departments to create combined BlackBerry® and DPP applications. The kit also enables any existing paper-based forms – for example a patient record form – to be printed with the Anoto pattern, so that they can be used with the digital pen. The combination of Anoto’s digital pen with BlackBerry smartphones enables mobile workers to electronically capture and transmit data when away from their desks. The Anoto digital pen records what is being written onto a form printed with Anoto special dot pattern. This data is then transmitted back to the office via a BlackBerry device for further processing – without the need to type up notes. The lower capital cost compared to traditional PC-based data-capture systems, enables organisations to realise a strong return on investment and increase staff productivity – while not changing existing workflows. Medicals Direct, which carries out health screenings on behalf of life insurance providers in the UK, rolled out Anoto’s digital pens and BlackBerry smartphones to streamline the processing of half a million screening forms which its nurses complete every year. Now when a medical is completed, the pen transmits the form data wirelessly to the nurse’s BlackBerry, which automatically forwards it to a back-end server. The technology has reduced the turnaround time for the forms from seven days to just 24 hours. The system cost in the region of £400,000 over two years to implement – five times less than the tablet PC solution Medical Direct had originally considered. “PaperIQ has a track record of highly successful projects where BlackBerry smartphones and our digital pens have helped organisations achieve dramatic cost-savings, greater efficiency and more focused working practices,” commented Ebba Åsly Fåhraeus, vice president of marketing for Anoto Group AB. “The Anoto integration kit for BlackBerry is a milestone en route to making Digital Pen and Paper the most popular data capture mechanism in the local government/ sector.” – ends – Note to editors: Photography can be downloaded here: • Product photo: http://www.anoto.com/filearchive/3/3720/Anoto_digital_pen_bl... • Home care: http://www.anoto.com/filearchive/3/3742/homehcare_highres.jp... • Healthcare: http://www.anoto.com/filearchive/3/3735/Hospital_formshighre...
