Lake District "Booming" as Britons stay home for Summer Wednesday 18 June 2008 PDF Print The Lake District is now the most popular destination for cottage holidays, surpassing Cornwall for the first time. That's the biggest change reported by Cottages.co.uk the cottage holiday planning site. After a recent poll by Tripadvisor reported 30% of Brits stating currency exchange rates are impacting their holiday plans, it seems that the cut-price delights of walking and sight-seeing in the spectacular Lake District has more appeal than ever, with enquiries up over 45% in May, compared to 2007. Other risers include cottages with hot tubs, cottages in Wales, and log cabins. "Enquiries are up across the board," says site director Jon Cockerill, "but typically 10% to 15%. Cornwall has long been the most popular area, but the Lake District has now surged past it. It looks like being a busy summer in Cumbria!" -ends- Note to editors: The site www.cottages.co.uk features over 150 independent holiday cottage agencies across the UK, enabling people to find the local specialists for any area. Established in 2004, it assists over half a million unique visitors per year.
