•IRIS Payroll Basics helps small business owners to manage HMRC payroll requirements

London, UK, 15th February 2010: IRIS, one of the UK's largest suppliers of payroll software and the largest privately owned UK software business today announced the launch of its new free IRIS Payroll Basics solution in association with HMRC. Recent changes in UK law mean that from May 2010 all employers regardless of the number of employees within the organisation are required to file their employer annual return online. IRIS Payroll Basics is a robust free payroll solution specifically designed to help organisations with less than 10 employees adhere to the new HM Revenue and Customs legislation for online year-end filing.

IRIS Payroll Basics is incredibly easy to use and removes the need to enter data more than once cutting down on valuable administration time and the risk of errors.

This is welcome news for small business owners with up to 9 employees who from the fiscal tax year-end 2009/2010, will be required to file their P35 and P14 year-end tax and national insurance documents online. Surprisingly over 350,000 small businesses opted to submit paper copies when filing their PAYE returns with HMRC for the 2008/2009 tax year and any businesses who fail to submit correctly online this year will face hefty penalties.

This new legislation creates a challenge for those organisations who currently do not have a payroll product as they will need to submit their figures manually online through the HMRC website. This is a lengthy and error prone process, requiring a company to set up their details for each person on the database provided by HMRC and then manually type in their final year figures.

Oliver Shaw, MD of IRIS Business Software Ltd, comments, “This change in legislation means that many smaller businesses are facing a big risk and a significant increase in the costs of administration. Small businesses tend to have limited payroll knowledge and this can lead to filing errors for which there are stiff penalties. Not only is our solution completely free but it gives smaller employers the opportunity to work with a payroll specialist that already supports over 30,000 UK businesses from small traders to big high street names, with over 2.5 million P14s filed online with our software last year. IRIS has a history of helping small businesses manage the risks of non-compliance and the costs of administration through a range of small business, HR and payroll software solutions.”

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with HMRC on this project to help UK small businesses through the complex and costly maze of red tape by offering a simple, reliable and compliant solution. 1 in 10 UK employees are paid using IRIS software and we offer a range of solutions that can continue to meet a small business’ needs as it grows.”

“There are many benefits for businesses of filing online and IRIS Payroll Basics is designed with this in mind; it saves you time and money; it is more secure, convenient and reduces administration mistakes and misinterpretations, plus it’s quick and easy and helps to tick the green box as it encourages a paperless office.”

IRIS Payroll Basics is a desktop application that also allows businesses to pay their employees accurately and on time, safe in the knowledge that they are complying with all the latest legislation. Key features of the product also include:

•Year-end and In-year filing capability
•Payslip Printing
•Statutory Payments and Deductions
•Employee details
•Statutory reports e.g. P45s
•A range of online help and telephone support is also offered.

From 15th February 2010 HMRC will send out its Employers bulletin to all PAYE registered companies in the UK. Included in this pack will be the employers CD and details of the changes. IRIS Payroll Basics can be downloaded by clicking on the link supplied on the CD or typed in using the website address on the bulletin.
